On March 12th, a group of four Year 9 pupils set off for the Grand Final of the Martian Clock Challenge that was held at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London. Our team managed to get to the final thanks to some excellent design work by Harry Streuli, Liam Hayward, Joe Hardwick and Chris Wall. The competition was set up by the Young Engineers and the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers. Arnold Wolfendale(the 14th Astronomer Royal) praised all the entrants for their superb appreciation of the many complex issues, their imagination and skill and their obvious enthusiasm in their clocks. We were delighted to be awarded 1st prize for Best Research. We won £200 for the school and the boys each won a very nice Seiko watch for their efforts.
