The following courses are currently running at The Dorset Cricket Centre
October Half-Term courses
During the October 2004 half-term week we will be running Bronze and Silver Proficiency Award sessions.
The Bronze Proficiency Award involves the coaching of batting, bowling and fielding skills, followed by tests, with the aim of scoring points and acheiving a pass mark of 45. Certificates and sweater badges are awarded to those successful young cricketers. The Silver Proficiency follows the same format but has a pass mark of 60.
For more details and application forms contact the Centre.
There will also be East Dorset District Assessment days for the Under 12, 13 and 15 age groups. These are in preparation for the East Dorset District Squads being selected and the start of Squad training sessions in November.
Girls Cricket
To build on the success of recent summers we will be holding coaching sessions for all girls aged between 10 and 15 years of age during the period September to December. The sessions will cater for all levels from County to beginners.
Please contact the Centre for application forms and further details.
For people who are running or intending to run youth cricket teams, teachers who are keen to coach cricket at school, and anybody else interested in coaching cricket, the centre runs cricket coaching award courses. These are usually run annually, though they sometimes run twice a year, depending on demand. To find out when the next courses are due to be held, see below. Even if these dates are some time away, you can always contact us, in case there is a demand for an earlier course.
Level 1 is the most basic coaching award course. It covers all aspects of the game, however, and allows membership of the Association of Cricket Coaches, which provides essential insurance cover for coaches when they are teaching children. The course may be taken at age 16, but candidates cannot be certified until 18. It is subsidised by the Dorset Cricket Board via grants from the Cricket Foundation.
Please contact the centre for further information and an application form.
Those people who have been actively involved as Level 1 coaches and who are interested in improving their technical knowledge and coaching skills may be interested in the Level 2 course. The award includes a revision of demonstrations, net management, a first aid and emergencies module and a video analysis of batsmen and bowlers.
The cost is £70. Please contact the centre for further information.
