bet on, and win, a three-time accumulator
Why?
I have tried this sooooo many times and never quite managed it. So it has to be done.
Done?
22nd July 2006
Treble betting is probably the stupiest way to part with your money. But it does make life entertaining and you could carry a big smug grin for a while if you managed to make a correct pick.
I've decided to bet £2.50 each week on three football matches during the 2006/7 season. I'll probably go for English Premiership matches, but I hear there is value in Scottish 3rd Division, so maybe I'll have a look there too. I have also put seven treble bets on today, just to get things started and I've gambed £2.50 on each. I'll keep a running total on this page so you can see how I'm getting on.
1st Bet - Winning Leagues:
Liverpool to win the Premiership, Birmingham to win the Championship and Milwall to win League One.Pays out a total of £1755.00
2nd Bet - Relegation:
Bolton, Aston Villa and Watford to be relegated from the Premiership.Pays out a total of £382.50
3rd Bet - Lower League Winners:
Gretna to win the Scottish 1st Division, Nuneaton Borough to win the Conference North and Eastleigh to win the Conference South.Pays out a total of £272.70
4th Bet - Surely?:
Chelsea to win the Premiership, Tiger Woods to win the British Open and Pakistan to beat England in the Cricket Series.Pays out a total of £15.55
5th Bet - European Special:
Bayern to win the German League, Barcelona to win the Spanish League and Lyon to win the French League.Pays out a total of £7.57
6th Bet - I really fancy my chances with this one:
Darren Bent to be top Premiership scorer, Chelsea and Liverpool to draw in the Charity Shield and Pete to win Big Brother (I have never watched Big Brother, but I'm convinced that the bookies have inside information so they know who is gonna win and he's the favourite).Pays out a total of £243.75
7th Bet - Promotion from the Championship:
Sunderland, Leeds and Preston all to be promoted from the Championship.Pays out a total of £177.33
So if the seven bets above all come off, that's over £2500. Easy money.
Treble for Week 1 (5 August 2006)
Birmingham to beat Colchester
Plymouth to beat Wolves
Gretna to beat Hamilton
£2.50 would pay out a total of £14.00Well, Birmingham and Gretna did the business, but Wolves pulled one back to draw with Plymouth. Nearly.
Treble for Week 2 (12 August 2006)
Birmingham to beat Stoke
Nuneaton Borough to beat Workington
Gretna to beat Clyde
£2.50 would pay out a total of £15.56Well, Gretna play tomorrow (Sunday) but the two other games finished as draws. Bollocks.
Okay, new plan! A friend of mine from University, Russell Angel, got in touch. He was always a bit of a gambler at Uni and we've decided to have a competition between now and the end of the season to see how can make the most cash. We are going to bet £2.50 on a treble (English and Scotish teams) each weekend (Sat, Sun and Mon) and see who can make the most money at the end of the season. First weekend was the weekend commencing 2nd September 2006.
2nd September 2006
Russell John Tranmere to beat Orient
Lincoln to beat Accrington Stanley
Peterborough to beat BuryDroylsdon to beat Hinkley
Gainsborough to beat Nuneaton
Notts Forrest to beat ChesterfieldNeither of us won for our first weekend. Russ came quite close with his 3/1 shot, but my rather ambitious 7/1 shot didn't even nearly come off.
Current Stadings
Russ: - £2.50
John: - £2.50
