go see a basketball and ice hockey game

why?

These are just two of those things that I have always said I have wanted to do and never got off my arse and done.

done?

Half done: 10/09/2006

When this website had around 5 seconds of fame quite a few people got in touch kindly offering support and ideas to help me in my quest. One such person was Hannah Woodhams who sent the following e-mail:

How nice is that? Hannah works for the Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey team and a quick gander at their website shows that they are a very professional outfit and one of the best teams in the country. The season started in September 2006 so I sent Hannah an e-mail back and we arranged for four tickets for the opening day of the season against the Belfast Giants. The four tickets were for me and my friends Kristian, Mark and John. Lovely work.

That's what we like to see: free tickets.

Anyway, on to the game itself, which was fantastic. The first thing that you notice is the dedicated fans. Hannah informed me that the majority of fans are season ticket holders (probably about 80% by the look of things) and there was a good showing of Belfast away fans which is impressive for a Sunday evening. We (and when I say 'we' I actually mean 'I', but I like to generalise) tend to forget that there are any other sports aside from football and it was great to do something different.

From left to right: John, Kristian and yours truly. Not sure how accurate the sign is.

The second thing about the game we noticed was the sheer speed. Although there are a few stoppages the puck travels so fast and it makes for a very exciting sport. It's great to get a few goals too and the game finished 6-4 in favour of Coventry (read the report here if you fancy it).

Great night had by all and we'll definately be doing it again. Big thanks to everyone involved at the Blaze for a cracking night.

Just the basketball game to sort now.
