we so seldom look on love
video projection on photographic gelatine

One of the first things I did when I started my photography MA was to stop taking pictures. Instead I began to look at photographic film and paper as material objects and became fascinated by the instability of the chemicals and other products used in photographic processes.

I was interested not only by this central paradox, but also by the physical nature of many of the products used. Honey, beeswax, egg white, gelatine - all of these have a very strong corporeal presence and I began to think about photographic film and paper as a body.

In this piece I wanted to explore the incongruous and alchemical nature of the photographic process as a means of addressing the links between photography, permanence and death.
