Picture New Mills
Thanks to a grant fom the Heritage Lottery Fund, over 5000 historic
photographs of New Mills and its people, collected by New Mills Local
History Society and dating back to the 1880s, are now available for public
viewing on computers in New Mills Library and New Mills Heritage Centre.
Members of the public are able to browse the whole collection using
keyword lists, view the descriptive data and run off low resolution
prints for personal use.
The images cover a wide variety of subjects such as individuals, buildings and streets, groups of people, family groups, outdoor activities, school classes, transport and industry, and wartime. No images may be used for publication or distribution without the written permission of New Mills Local History Society and a charge may be made. The project also includes the digitisation of the unique collection of audio tapes of oral history which has been built up over the years.
