Communication across the vast distances between Systems
is unreliable at the best of times. The distances involved alone present a major
problem, even before taking into consideration the problems the Warp can cause.
Most races use some form of signal booster or relay system (be it for psychic
or more conventional data transfers), but by far the most common are the Imperial
Tracking Stations. To help improve the chances of transmitting and recieving
communications, scattered throughout the galaxy are a multitude of these Tracking
Stations. These facilities are normally positioned in deep space, where they
act as a booster for any communications sent from nearby systems. They house
an vast array of signal boosting equipment and more importanly a group of Astropaths
from the Adeptus Astra Telepathica are stationed aboard, not just assisting
with communication but also monitoring local systems for any signs of heresy.
The delicate unarmoured dishes and antennae mean there's not much space for
armour, but because of the immense value of these Stations, they are heavily
shielded, are always surrounded by defence systems and often ships from the
Imperial Navy are stationed near by.

| Campaign Special Rules:
If your fleet controls a Tracking Station it gets +1 to Leadership checks or +1 to go onto special orders. Great War Special Rules: To capture a Tracking Station fight the "Raiders" scenario with the station in the centre of the board. The defender gains an additional D6x10pts to spend on orbital defences. The attacker must board the station to capture it. Race benefit (for all fleets of that race) when System Results are added up, total up the number of Tracking Stations controlled by each race. Each fleet may make a re-roll on the Reinforcement/Refit/Other table for each Tracking Station controlled by their race (because of the improved communications). They can choose to use them after any raid/battles during the next phase, but once used up that's it. |
