Farseer Ulwenath, the envoy from Biel Tan and his escort have been ambushed. The accursed followers of the Dark Powers were responsible, we know from previous encounters that these were the ones called "Word Bearers". Alas it is happening sooner than we thought. We have recovered the black crystal recording device, the battle report is most disturbing...

This game was slightly unusual, we didn't stick to the Force Organisation charts, but rather just picked units we thought would fit the ambush well. Another thing of note, for this game we had decided the Chaos Veterans could split fire like Long Fangs, so the Lascannon could target tanks while the Heavy Bolter and Bolters could lay into the Troops. The armies were:

The Chaos Ambush - A faction of the Word Bearers, The Soul Reapers. The Soul Reapers have be exiled by the Word Bearers after the company's master dedicated himself to Khorne and renounced the Word Bearer's worhship of Undivided. Gradually the company is turning entirely to Khorne, hence the mixture of Undivided with Khorne units. Kurell's retinue of Khorne Terminators is his first step on the path of the Warrior God. Why they are here is anyones guess.

The Eldar Convoy- After contact was made between Ulthwe and Biel Tan, Farseer Illeni from the Biel Tan craftworld was moving under escort to meet with Ulwenath of Ulthwe, a great diplomat amongst the Eldar people.

The Eldar convoy started in a line, the Guardians taking point, the Farseer & Warlock's Wave Serpent at the rear. The Chaos ambush lay in wait, the Veteran's were dug in on the hill while the Land Raider and it's Terminator cargo were behind the hill.

Chaos took the first turn. The Land Raider moved out, swung to a stop and released Kurell and his retinue. The Land Raider's Heavy Bolter and the Terminators shooting causing several casulties amongst the Guardians. The Veterans fired, their Lascannon stopped the Banshee's Wave Serpent from firing, their other guns killing yet more Guardians.

Both Wave Serpents darted to the left, setting themselves up for an Assault. The Guardians with the Bright Lance moved into cover and shot at the Land Raider, while the weapon's aim was true it caused little damage, merely stalling the tanks movement. Everything else was either out of range or had moved to far to shoot..

The Land Raider's Lascannons hit the Farseer's transport smashing it to the ground, the Farseer and all but one of his Warlock bodyguard staggered out unhurt. The Terminators and Veterans unleashed a hail of fire into the approaching Guardians, the few that survived turned tail and fled.

The Farseer and Warlocks unleashed a psychic barrage on Kurell and his retinue, the Champion of Chaos shrugged it off cackling. The Guardian's Bright Lance fired at the Land Raider again, this time tearing off one of the tracks and bringing the tank to a permanent halt.

The remaining Wave Serpent moved forward and it's cargo of Howling Banshees lept out to face the Chaos Champion and his Retinue, Masks amplifying their screams the Banshees attacked. Erendilan vaulted over the Terminators and launched a savage attack on Kurell slicing through his armour, horrific though his injuries were Kurell fought back, swinging his Power Axe in a great arc and decapitating Erendilan with a single stroke. With Kurell wounded and the Banshees and Terminators locked in combat, the outcome still hung in the balance.

The Land Raider could not move, but it could certainly shoot.. the Wave Serpent errupted in a ball of flame as the Lascannons found their target. Draca's Veterans charged into the Banshees flank. Things looked bad for the Banshees but somehow they clung in there, battling for their lives.

Illeni and the Warlocks charged into the melee, thrusting his Spear through the back of Kurell's armour. Kurell fell forward and lay still, no longer would he play a part in this battle. Even though he had felled the Champion of Chaos, as the last Banshee fell Illeni knew he was doomed.

The Land Raider fired all it's weapons into the remaining Guardians wiping them out utterly. Illeni fought on as his Warlock bodyguard were cut down, his Spear was torn to pieces as he tried in vain to parry a blow from Draca's Chainfist. With a roar Draca sliced Illeni's head from his shoulders. The Eldar were defeated. Battered and bloody Kurell joined Draca in screaming to the heavens "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!"
