USING SHADOWHAWK MERCENARIES IN WARHAMMER 40,000

Shadowhawks use the Night Lords Army list as in Codex: Chaos Space Marines, with the following exceptions:

1. Units or characters must not have any marks of chaos. The only items from the Daemonic wargear section available are Daemonic Aura (Shadowfield) or Daemonic Flight (Jump Pack).
2. Possessed, Daemons, Defilers or Terminator suits can not be used.
3. All units able to do so must also take the Stealth Adept skill. They may have one additional veteran skill, but this may only be Infiltrate or Move Through Cover (there are exceptions naemly Commandos and certain Characters, this is described below).
4. Shadowhawks do not have the resources to put any upgrades on their vehicles.

++HQ++

0-1 SHADOWLORD (Chaos Lord) Must take the Stealth Adept, Infiltrate and Move Through Cover Veteran skills.

Each Shadowlord commands one of the Shadowhawks companies. When a Shadowlord dies his replacement is elected from the verterans of the company's Commando unit. They are accomplished leaders proven in countless battles with fieldcraft skills second to none.

LIBRARIAN (Lieutenant with sorcerer upgrade and Doom Bolt power, no other psychic powers maybe taken except for the minor powers in Chapter Approved)

Suprisingly, on the battlefield Shadowhawk Librarians take an extremely offensive role. Whilst they may use some subtle powers, they will most commonly be seen launching dark bolts of psychic energy into the foe.

0-1 SHADOWSNIPER (Lieutenant with Kai Gun, Bolt Pistol and the Stealth Adept, Infiltrate and Move Through Cover Veteran skills. May not take any other wargear or equipment.)

Commandos that show exceptional marksmanship maybe trained in the use of the Dominator Rifle and become Shadowsnipers. Expert snipers and battlefield leaders, answerable only to the Shadowlords. The role became fully established after the capture of an STC device led to the development of the Dominator Rifle. The Dominator Sniper Rifle features a highly complex neural link to its internal targeting system that provides a 99.9997% accurate firing ratio. However this system was designed for single shot assassinations and generally slower paced targeting. When operating alongside other Shadowhawks the snipers will often need to rapidly re-aquire and lock different targets, this can sometimes lead to a blast of neural feedback which can stun or even render the user unconscious. Thankfully the risk is not great and in the Shadowhawks eyes the power of the Dominator more than makes up for the occasional problem.

++ELITES++

0-1 COMMANDO TEAM (Chosen)

Commando Teams may take any or all of the Veteran skills Infiltrate, Tank Hunters and the Move Through Cover Veteran skills, note this is an exception to the normal Shadowhawk rules listed above. Each company has an elite Commando unit, the company's best warriors and masters of concealment. The Commando teams specialise in destroying enemy armour and installations, but as they have access to the best weapons and equipment the Shadowhawks possess a Commando Team can be tailored for various battlefield roles. The squad members will often be a mixture of long serving Commando veterans and more recently promoted marines.

++TROOPS++

1+ TACTICAL SQUAD (Chaos Space Marines with Bolters, Special and/or Heavy Weapons as per the chaos codex)

The backbone of any Shadowhawk force, these squads will often take an extra special weapon in place of a heavy weapon due to their so often infiltrating into close proximity of the enemy.

ASSAULT SQUAD (Chaos Space Marines with BP and CC)

With the Shadowhawks infiltration specialities, they will often choose to suprise the enemy with devestating close combat assaults. This has led to squads equipped with close assault weaponry becoming more common.

++FAST ATTACK++

DROP TEAM (Raptors)

The Shadowhawk's shortage of heavy armour has resulted in the chapters Jump pack equipped squads acting more as anti-tank hit and run units. With several melta or plasma weapons in the squad they will pounce on enemy armour destroying it at close range. However it is not unknown for Drop Teams to take a more anti infantry role using flamers and close assault weaponry.

++HEAVY SUPPORT++

SUPPORT SQUAD (Havocs) Most often the Shadowhawks anti-tank requirements will be filled by Support Squads wielding heavy weaponry, other than their natural Shadowhawk skills these units have changed little from their Devestator origins.

0-1 DREADNOUGHT The chapter still has several operational Dreadnoughts, but due to the difficulties of aquiring parts for them they are used sparingly. Unfortunately this lack of parts has also led to a dangerous side effect. A Dreadnoughts internal power conduits have proven very difficult for the Shadowhawks to obtain, meaning their Dreadnoughts often suffer from massive power surges. In battle this can result in the Dreadnought firing seemingly at random or manically charging the enemy. Needless to say the Shadowhawks tend not to use their ancient brethren when stealth is of the utmost importance...

0-1 PREDATOR The chapter still operates several Predators, thanks to the durability and easily maintained Rhino based chassis. Though there are still not enough to use in great numbers.
