Medieval Musical Period:

Basic simple and ancient style used in art, music and instrument making prevalent in the Middle Ages (5th to 14th centuries).

There was little or no standardisation in construction forms or pitch and instruments where largely made for modal or diatonic scales to be played. During this period an simple form of tablature notation was developed for recording the required rhythm and melody to be played.
