May have come from Bedford. Went to West Indies in 1794, 'with no resources but his own abilities'. Owned several vessels trading through the islands and occasionally to Halifax and Bermuda, or in peace time to America. Had 21 slaves in 1817; six slaves in 1831; had five in 1834, having sold one. A spare man with chestnut hair and dark eyes. Was living in Pall Mall Square, Basseterre, in 1813. Went to live at Lime Kiln in about 1820. He rented the house. In 1833 he moved to the house in Church Street, Basseterre, where Dr Branch later lived. Was Lieutenant-Colonel of the Windward Regiment of Foot.
