Membership SIAS welcomes new members and promises them an active and varied programme related to the study of industrial archaeology in the County of Somerset. Members are invited to take a full part in its activities. A programme of organised excursions, casual "fossicks", formal talks by visiting lecturers and informal members' evenings is prepared by the committee and is advertised in the Bulletin which is issued three times a year. The Bulletin also carries articles on the industrial history of the county. The Society has also published a series of folded cards which are illustrated with pen and ink drawings of industrial sites in Somerset, and a number of monographs called Surveys dealing with various industrial archaeological subjects in the County. All of these and other items of interest are available for purchase at meetings.. Membership of SIAS costs £12 per year which covers a single member or a family. Students in full-time education have a concessionary charge of £5. The membership year runs from April to March and a new member would receive all the publications for that year: e.g. someone joining in October would receive the April Bulletin as well as the current one circulated in September. New members who join between January and March have a choice of either being registered for the current year and receiving all publications. or they can opt to have joined for the following year whereupon they receive free membership for the remaining part of the current year. including a copy of the January Bulletin. Please note that SIAS will hold your personal information in two places. The treasurer keeps a computer record of name, address, telephone number and the date of first membership and renewal each year: the secretary holds a computer list of names and addresses to ease the printing of address labels. Any new member who wishes his details to be kept only in writing should specify this on the application form. Personal details will never be passed to any organization without the member's explicit approval. Contact sias@geoffitton.plus.com for details, or print and return the membership form [microsoft word document or plain text] enclosing a cheque payable to "SIAS". |
