“astonishing and fantastic that work of such high quality is being produced in Taunton” – Charles Hazlewood, Patron.
OrchestraWest was founded in February 2006, and we are the only professional Symphony Orchestra west of Bristol. We are based in Taunton, and perform large scale orchestral works to a growing body of supporters, which includes our Patron, the international conductor and broadcaster Charles Hazlewood. Past performances have included concertos by Elgar, Brahms and Strauss, symphonies by Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven, and other works by Wagner, Grieg, Rimsky-Korsakov and Sibelius. Haydn, Mendelssohn and Bruch are scheduled for performance in 2008, as well as a mighty performance of Beethoven’s Ninth with a specially assembled Festival Chorus as the opening concert at Westival (July 19th).
Our players, all professionals, are based either in the Taunton area, or originated here and are now pursuing professional music careers elsewhere with some of the great national orchestras or with their own ensembles. Occasionally we draw on other players when there are specialist gaps to fill.
The Artistic Director is John Cole (01823 284180).
Tickets are now available online through www.orchestrawest.co.uk, and from the Brewhouse Theatre Box Office and the Taunton Tourist Information Centre. There are various concessions available, so please do contact Anne Curtis through the website, or on the details below.
