Church Bowling

Did you know?

Historical evidence has been found that William Tell and his family were avid bowlers (known as lawn bowling at the time). However, all the league records were unfortunately lost to antiquity. Thus we'll never know for whom the Tells bowled.

A Selector's Prayer:

Blessed are they who can play sport
Blessed are they who can still be taught
Blessed are they who accept with grace
To play in any selected place.

The Bowling Club meets in the church hall on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2.00pm until 4.00pm during the winter months. In the summer we play at Pitstruan Bowling Green (Ruthrieston Centre) on Monday and Thursday mornings from 10.00am until 12 noon.

Non church members are welcome and there is no age limit. For further information phone the secretary, George Laing on Aberdeen 318435

We no longer compete in the Churches League, but have ladies and gents singles competitions indoors and a mixed singles competition outdoors for the Johnston Trophy in the summer. We have a summer outing to Stonehaven Bowling club annually and a Christmas lunch at The Inn at the Park during December. We have the occasional friendly match with Holburn West Bowling Club.

Since the church union of Holburn Central and Ruthrieston South, our membership has increased, giving us a good boost in numbers.
