South Holburn Parish Church

The Guild meets every Monday, alternating between afternoons and evenings. We meet in the church hall- 2.00pm for the afternoon session - usually finishing about 4.00pm - and 7.30pm for the evening session - usually finishing about 9.30pm.

The Guild is open to all ages and is not only for women. Men can join if they wish! All are welcome to join in the fellowship, friendship and fun.

We try to have a variety of speakers as well as "home spun" entertainment. We usually have an open night during the session when all church members and friends are invited to come along and enjoy the evening’s entertainment. We also like to have an afternoon or evening when other Guilds are invited to join us.

A coffee morning is also included in the syllabus. Two outings are usually on the agenda - one in summer and the other at Christmas. The Christmas outing is usually to a local hotel for a Christmas meal and where Mrs Clause pays a visit.

During our session we support a variety of projects. Members vote at the start of the session which projects we will support during the year. During our last session we supported Crossreach and Scottish Love in Action. We also provided white towels and white sheets for a children’s hospital in Malawi. This was very successful.

In recent months all branched of the Guild received a letter from an Army Chaplain in Basra, requesting biscuits, tea and coffee etc to be sent to the troops serving there. South Holburn Guild sent 55 shoe boxes filled with goodies. This was so successful that the troops were overwhelmed.

If the Guild is set a task, they will endeavour to meet the challenge. Our motto is “Whose we are and Whom we serve.” This is true of every member – to serve the Lord in any way we can.

	The Guild at South Holburn Parish Church	With around 35,000 members, the Church of Scotland Guild is one of Scotland's largest voluntary organisations. Although women make up the bulk of its membership, increasingly, men are becoming members and taking active roles at local and national levels. Members meet in local groups at congregational level, in regional groups known as presbyterial councils, and once a year at the national meeting, to which each group can send a representative. "The Church of Scotland Guild is a movement within the Church of Scotland which invites and encourages both women and men to commit their lives to Jesus Christ and enables them to express their faith in worship, prayer and action." This aim has been underlined in the Guild motto which is taken from Acts 27, verse 23: "Whose we are and Whom we serve."
