University of Birmingham
We are currently providing consultancy and assistance for the Finance Department of the University of Birmingham. They are converting a series of manuals into on-screen help, initially using Winhelp. This task involves setting up standard procedures, defining Word templates and configuring their help authoring tool to give the best results.
As a first step, we were asked to analyse their requirements and suggest an appropriate help authoring tool to convert the existing manuals. As these were written using Word for Windows, we recommended RoboHELP (in order to anticipate a future move to an HTML-based help format, we suggested the full RoboHELP Office suite).
We then spent time on-site, configuring RoboHELP Classic for the initial project. During this task we set up the default templates to ensure that all future products used consistent styles. To test the templates, we supervised the conversion of a typical chapter from a manual. This established a procedure that University staff would follow for the rest of the conversion.
The final consultancy task will be to review the complete help system and suggest any potential enhancements.
