LOUGHTON BEREAVEMENT SERVICE

Sunday 4 May 3.00-5.00pm Loughton Methodist church invite you to join them for tea, homemade cakes and a chat with others who have been bereaved.  For more details contact Kathleen 020 8508 9408.

 

 

CHRISTIAN AID

Sunday 11 May at Loughton Methodist Church will be holding a  service to celebrate the start of Christian Aid Week.  Tea and refreshments from 4.00pm.  Service starts 4.30pm.  EVERYONE WELCOME!

 

 

BALDWINS BIBLE STUDY GROUP

We all so enjoyed and learned from our Lent Group we thought we would like to continue!  Perhaps you would like to join us.  We are meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 8.00pm at Rosemary Wells’ home, 2 Baldwins Hill.  The first meeting is on 13 May.  Please let Rosemary (8508 4602) or Ivy Southgate (8508 7530) know if you will be coming.

 

 

CHRISTIAN AID COLLECTION-SAINSBURYS

Saturday 17 May 9.00am-5.00pm outside Sainsbury’s.  To sign up to help with this contact Rosemary Haslam 020 8504 8000.

 

 

SYRIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN ACTION

On Trinity Sunday 18 May Suhail Baithun will be introducing us to the Syrian Orthodox Church in Acton.  This follows his Epiphanytide talk on the persecution of Christians in Iraq.  We have been invited to join the community for their liturgy at 5.30pm - some of which will be in English especially for us!  A list is at the back of St John’s for those who would like to attend.

 

DEBDEN DAY WILD WEST EXTRAVAGANZA

24 May A carvery lunch at Sir Winston Churchhill Pub for Senior Citizens.  First sitting 1.00pm and second sitting 3.00pm including music hall entertainment.  This lunch is free and available to 100 Senior Citizens.  If you are interested or know someone who might be please contact Linda Brede, Parish Office (020 8508 4867) for an application form.

 

 

LITERATURE GROUP

The next meeting of the group will be on Thursday 5 June at Trinity.   The book to be discussed will be “A Map of Love”, by Ahdaf Soueif and we are very pleased that Mark Ball has agreed to introduce it.  As usual, a number of library copies will become available from me.  Jim Retter

 

 

CHARITY OF THE MONTH

The Charity this month is Christian Aid.
