Notes from Project Meetings
Introduction
This section includes notes, minutes and presentations made at various project meetings.
The first standard relating ISO EXPRESS and OMG UML was ISO 10303-25 EXPRESS to XMI binding. Work on a follow-on standard has been ongoing since July 2004. However, the plans and approach for what is standardized and by who has been evolving since that time. The following documents from the various meetings since July 2004 show that history.
2005-06 ISO STEP Valencia
- The ISO STEP Valencia P25E2 Presentation was discussed at Lillehammer in March 2005. This is where the second draft of a metamodel of EXPRESS was reviewed.
- The Transformation of EXPRESS Models Using OMG Technologies presentation from Ed Barkmeyer for the OMG ADTF in Boston the following week was reviewed at the meeting.
2005-03 ISO STEP Lillehammer
- The ISO STEP Lillehammer P25E2 Presentation was discussed at Lillehammer in March 2005. This is where the first draft of a metamodel of EXPRESS was reviewed.

2004-07 ISO STEP Seattle
The ISO STEP Seattle P25E2 Presentation was discussed at Seattle in October 2004. This includes the additional context in EXPRESS Edition 2 that needs to be addressed.
The Eurostep Proposal for UML 1.5 Profile for EXPRESS 2 was discussed at Seattle in October 2004. *Seattle marks comments included from the meeting.
At Seattle the following approach to development of a UML Profile for EXPRESS was agreed:
- Publish proposed approach to representing each EXPRESS 2 concept in UML 1.5
- Publish test suite: EXPRESS and correspond UML model diagrams
- Team members use various UML tools to test creating the diagrams from the test suite
- Team members provide feedback and raise issues on proposal
- Team members address issues and re-publish proposal
Industrial Data and the Semantic Web
At the ISO STEP Seattle meeting on Industrial Data and the Semantic Web, which was a follow-up to an initial session on that topic in Bath July 2004, the OMG Ontology Definition Metamodel (ODM) was discussed. Contact had been made with the ODM submitters to gauge interest in the ISO EXPRESS language. The idea of creating an OMG standard for the EXPRESS language was introduced at this session.
- The Open Discussion on Industrial Data and the Semantic Web : Volume 2 presentation was the main material presented at the meeting.
