'BEYOND THINKABLE THOUGHT ' - A NEW ALBUM?

During the making of the album, and the long tortous road to its' release on October 7th 2002, the world, frankly, went nuts. I remember protesting outside 10 Downing Street at the renewed bombing of Iraq in December of 1998. I remember sitting in the plane at Heathrow airport in April 1999, waiting to fly to Jordan (and on by bus to Iraq), stuck on the tarmac for two hours while we waited for military clearance to fly near the bombing of Kosovo. I remember, as do we all, the terrible day that was September 11th 2001, and the equally terrible days of the bombing of Afghanistan. I continue to see the spiral of violence in Palestine and Israel, whilst India and Pakistan face off across the borders of Kashmir, each armed with nuclear weapons.

All that in under 4 years. It can get a bit disheartening sometimes, this peace activism business.

I was vaguely planning to make a video documentary on the state of things post 9 -11, but am also considering a new album instead. The structure of this project, provisonally entitled 'BEYOND THINKABLE THOUGHT,' will be much simpler than THE FIRE THIS TIME, featuring concise interviews and speeches by the leading dissidents and critics of our time, including NOAM CHOMSKY, ED HERMAN, HOWARD ZINN, MICHAEL MOORE, JOHN PILGER, ROBERT FISK, GEORGE MONBIOT, and WILLIAM BLUM, amongst others. These will simply be set to abstract and ambient soundscapes and music. In a sense it will be a crash course in what Chomsky calls '...intellectual self-defence...' against the bias and proaganda of the mainstream media.

If you are an up-and-coming musician or band, or indeed an established artist who may wish to contribute something, I would be delighted to hear from you. I will be looking for anything from rough textures and ambient sound recordings, right the way through to partial and finished pieces. Each track will be approximately 5 - 7 minutes long, with probably 12 tracks on the album in total. Subjects will cover such areas as arms control, media bias, trident nuclear submarines, 'free trade' and globalisation, environmental degredation, de facto 'one world government', sustainable energy, the corruption of language, unaccountability of unelected international institutions.......generally, many of the subjects that plague our society today.

As THE FIRE THIS TIME cost me more than just time, blood, sweat and tears, but a very large amount of cold hard cash, I simply can not afford to purchase any material at anything like the rate most artsists deserve and are used to. I envision some deal along the lines of a straight fee paid for the material up front. If the album sells well, say 2500 copies, then each contributor would get the straight fee paid again. 5000 copies, and the straight fee paid again, and so on. This is not set in stone, and as the project progresses, if it does at all, then something mutual could perhaps be worked out.

Interested? Drop me a line at info@firethistime.org

Thanks,

Grant Wakefield.
