CONTRIBUTORS' THOUGHTS

The making of THE FIRE THIS TIME was somewhat akin to the construction of a jigsaw puzzle, in which the musical contributors supplied their own pieces, yet without a strong idea of what the overall picture would be. I thought it would be interesting to ask them to comment on the final result.

"The album is an absolute triumph ! You should be very proud of it !! Incredibly moving stuff, believe me, words totally fail me."

-  Darrell Fitton (BOLA - Track 12 - 'DOG IN AMERICA')

"Finally had a chance to listen to final mix in it's entirety tonight......it's a landmark recording......it really is.....the depth and quality of research and construction are truly breathtaking....intense and challenging, only the most mass-media-zombified could remain unmoved......sincerest congratulations and thanks for asking us to be a small part of your project."

- David Thrussell (SOMA - Track 4 - 'GET THEE BEHIND ME'    +   Track 9 - re-mix of Aphex Twin - 'SAY HELLO TO ALLAH')

"The album is a fantastic achievement, but it's status as 'entertainment' is questionable, so perhaps people have to be in the right frame of mind to be prepared to fork out for what is effectively a factual and informative piece (the second disc notwithstanding).  Having said that I think it will be more of a slow burn, and something that should remain relevant and on catalogue for many years.

I thought that it was very good, but I felt it was not the kind of thing I would want to listen to more than once (and therefore buy) because it's effectively a spoken word album and very intense.  [....]  I was frustrated sometimes that the music was so much in the background and had imagined it would be more 50/50 with the narrative. Although the story is fascinating, the music is also good and deserves to be heard. [....] As a consequence of all the work you've done you've actually put together a really nice music compilation!"

- Steven Wilson (BASS COMMUNION - Track 11 - 'NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS' - with NASEER SHAMMA)

(Good thing we put out the instrumental disc as well, then!)

"I really liked the CD... I was surprised by how completely our track fitted into the overall sound - you'd think we'd all planned it together. The overall impression is very moving, and made me angry all over again - well done!"

- Alex McKechnie (BARBED - Track 7 - 'WE'RE DOING WELL NOW')
