Music & Radio

I've always dabbled a bit......

Back in 1993 I hosted and mixed four weekly 2 hour shows for Brighton's FESTIVAL RADIO, under the pseudonym / title 'THE BARRY UNLIKELY SHOW'. Barry came to a sticky end in the last broadcast, being assassinated live on air.

On a much more serious note, during the run up to the invasion of Iraq in March 2003, I took part in two 90 min. shows for London's much admired RESONANCE FM. For 'IRAQ AND IT'S PERMUTATIONS' Malu Halasa was host, with Cambridge University economist and anti-sanctions campaigner Colin Rowat, and myself, as guests. I was also engineer.

In the second show 'OH WHAT A STUPID WAR' I was solo host and engineer, improvising the mix and  entire proceedings based on a rough template of tracks and dialogue.

In early 2004, after the invasion I wrote, narrated and mixed a pre-recorded 90 min. programme 'THE PROPAGANDA SHOW' which was broadcast twice on RESONANCE. Interestingly, the entire production was generated on a lap top powered by solar panels.

Here's a 7 min. excerpt.....

As of November 2006 the full show is now available at www.pmwcreative.org/propaganda_show.html

And check out the excellent... RESONANCE FM

A lot of the radio invitations came as a result of my audio documentary THE FIRE THIS TIME, which was released by HIDDEN ART RECORDS in October 2002 to great reviews. Click on the link on the side bar above.

But beware.....more is coming.....

Yes !!! WHITE GONE DEAD are closer than they were last month to unleashing their first collaborative album, tentatively entitled THEFT, DEPRESSION AND HAPPINESS.  Political, humourous, experimental or downright bonkers, we simply don't know yet. But we at least know WHO we are:

BARRY UNLIKELY - Acoustic guitar, rhythms, loops, samples, theft
GRINAGOG - Rhythms, samples, textures, depression
LANDROVER JOE - Electric guitar, samples, happiness

Here's a couple of very early mixes.  So early, in fact, that 'THINK OF THE MIND' doesn't even feature their music. Dialogue is laid over a brilliant track by Steven Wilson in his BASS COMMUNION guise, from the album GHOSTS ON MAGNETIC TAPE.
