Version Numbers
Versions are MM.mm.RR where
MM=Major,mm=Minor,RR=Revision.
Revision changes are backwards compatible so you can download to the
same folder. Similarly, Minor changes may not work on previous event data but
you can download to the same folder. Major changes are noncompatible
and you should download to a different folder from previous versions (You will
need to reset your default settings – see PreInstallation
Note below)
PreInstallation
After a Major update, you should first backup current data using the
‘Backup Scorer Data’ button on the Administration screen.
Before download, note the Player
Database location (top line of Player Database screen)
Before
download, note the Event History location (on Administration screen).
For
IndScorer, PairsScorer the
Event History is in an Events File.
For
TeamsScorer the Event History is held in three files
– an Events File, a Boards File and a Contracts File.
For
SwissPairsScorer, SwissTeamsScorer
the Event History is held in four files – an Events File, a Boards File, a
Contracts File and a Names File.
To
reset any defaults changed after download, use Player Database>Change
Database button to reset the Player Database location and Administration>Change
Events File button(s) etc to reset the Event History.
Installation
The installation folder may be specified or defaulted
to c:\<Folder> where <Folder> is the program name.
Warning: You should NOT install to the c:\Program
Files folder. That folder has security privileges in recent Windows releases
and may cause problems.
The install program includes all the necessary Windows components. To
avoid ‘Access problems’, you should have administrative privilege doing the
installation. When you click the hyperlink for
the program you wish to download, your browser may offer you:
“Do
you want to run or save psinstall.exe from homepages.nildram.co.uk? Run, Save or Cancel
This type of file may harm your computer”
You
can ignore this standard non-Microsoft security warning. Select Run
“The publisher of psinstall.exe cannot be verified. Are you sure you
want to run the program?
Or
“psinstall.exe
is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer”
Again
this is standard security practice on Vista, Windows 7. Select Actions if necessary, then Run and then follow the instructions in the Setup Wizard (including
setting a desktop icon).
To run the
program, just Double Click the appropriate desktop icon (or select the program
from the Start menu).
Installation
onto another PC without Internet
On the Internet PC, choose the Save or Save
As option to save the Install File (xxInstall.exe) onto a Memory Stick.
Plug the Memory stick into the nonInternet PC and copy
the Install File into a folder (eg c:). Click the
copied Install file to run the installation.
Installation
of BridgeMate Control Software
To utilise Bridgemate scoring, download the latest Bridgemate
Control Software from http://www.bridgemate.co.uk/
This is normally installed in c:\Program Files\Bridgemate Pro\BMPRO.exe. The location may be specified in
the Scoring Program on the Bridge Unit Scorer screen.
Useful
Utilities For Scorer Support
I recommend the following utilities as trustworthy
and they will enhance your use of the JSS Scorer suite.
1. Adobe Reader (http://get.adobe.com.uk/reader) – Used to read the PDF format User documents
for the Scorer.
2. DoPDF (http://www.dopdf.com/) – Install as a Printer.
If you select it as the Scorer Printer, then it will effectively act as a Print
Preview utility.
3. TeamViewer (http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx)
– Used for support allowing diagnostic access to a remote PC. It may also be
used for Multi Screen displays.
