Introduction

This set of pages covers the people and places involved in my and my wife's family history. It includes a list of surnames, ahnentafels, biographies, problem areas, geography and history of the places where some of our ancestors lived, and associated genealogy/family history resources related to those areas.

The genealogical data in these pages is accurate to the best of my current (at the time of writing) knowledge. This means it is of very variable reliability, since sources at one extreme are 100% certain (e.g. I know who I married, where and when, and the identity of my parents) to the mere rumour level, such as LDS data extracted from the IGI and Ancestral File, and reminiscences of elderly relatives, some now deceased. Anyone wishing to make any use whatever of this information is therefore strongly advised to contact me for source details.

Some of the genealogy pages on this site contain Little or no data at present. To save you frustration I have marked links to such pages with the symbol NO. Such pages do, however, always provide a means for you to obtain an automatic email when I do put something potentially useful on it, so you may well feel it is still worth following the link - that's why it's there.

My Family History

Family Tree and Surnames

My family tree as an ahnentafel is on a separate page. As is clearly seen, some of the loose ends are comparatively recent. Any help with clearing them up would be much appreciated.

The surnames included are: A'COURT, ADAMS, BARNES, BELLOWES, BERIMAN, BOLTON, BRIDGES, BROWN, BUGLE, CAMMELL, CHERRETT, CHURCHOUSE, COLLIER, DORREL, DREW, DYE, EDES, FISHER, FOX, FRY, GERRARD, GRIFFITH(S)/GRUFFYTH, HANCOCK, HARRIS, HEMSON, HILL, JASPER, JEFFERIES, KING, LACY, LILLINGTON, LONGFORD, MABELL, MALL, MORGAN, NAILER, NIBLETT, PRINCE, REED, RIPPINGALE, SAY, SEYMOUR, TOWNSEND, VALENTINE, WARREN, WEST, WHITTLE, WILLS, WOODSFORD mostly in Dorset and Wiltshire, but with a few entries in Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire, London (formerly Middlesex and Surrey), Montgomeryshire and Norfolk.

Where there is a link from a name it is to a page of biographical details about all the people with that surname in my family tree, including a few who are not direct ancestors. The amount of such detail varies considerably. I will add others as time permits.

Problems

Details of a number of problems I am trying to solve are given on my Some Genealogy Mysteries page.

Any ideas or relevant information would be very welcome.

Genealogy in My Areas of Interest

I have created a separate page for most of the counties of significant family history interest to me. Each such page contains information on the origin of its name, a brief description of its geography and history, a review of the genealogical resources available to the researcher and of the non-genealogical web sites that exist relating to it. In some cases there is also more detailed geographical and historical information about and photos of particular villages, usually on separate pages. The counties concerned are Derbyshire, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Leicestershire, London area (London, Middlesex and Surrey), Norfolk, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Wiltshire, Worcestershire and Yorkshire West Riding Empty page. I also have a relatively minor interest in Bedfordshire (because that is where I have lived since 1957), and may possibly add a page for it at some stage.

The pages on Derbyshire, Hampshire, London, Norfolk and Nottinghamshire, while not empty of content, still have large gaps awaiting completion and are much inferior at present compared with those for Dorset, Staffordshire and Wiltshire.

I have set up a separate page giving a full list of all the counties, towns and villages included.

Photo Gallery

This photo gallery is a collection of photos of people and places connected with my family history. It includes some of the photos on my other family history pages, plus some, mainly groups of people, not shown elsewhere.
