Further Green Gains in May 2008!

No regular elections in Bedfordshire this year, but the Green Party continued its advance in other parts of the country.

In Norwich 3 gains made the Green Party the second biggest party on the city council, close behind Labour, with more Green votes than any other party in the city, and beating Labour by about 3,000 votes in former minister Charles Clarke's Norwich South constituency.

Greens also made their first gain in Cambridge, completed the set of three councillors in Sheffield Central ward and came from fourth place in the same ward last year to depose the Labour group leader in Solihull.

These are just a few examples of council seats gained this time all over the country. See the main Green Party web site for a full list.

Flitwick Town Centre Consultation

There is an in-going consultation with the public about the future of Flitwick town centre, and another about the town's leisure centre. Read about it and have your say! See our special page on this important local issue.

Imminent General Election?

In preparation for a General Election, whenever it may come, Green Party candidates are being selected for the constitutencies in Luton and Bedfordshire. In Mid Beds, former county councillor Malcolm Bailey has been selected, and in Luton North Simon Hall is to be the candidate. The other four constituencies are being actively considered, with a decision to be announced nearer the time. See our new special General Election page for more details.

Save the Cheap Day Return!

Train

On June 11th train company First Capital Connect trashed the cheap day return. Every passenger going from London to Luton, Flitwick or Bedford between 4:30 and 7:00p.m. now has to pay the full price fare - No Travel cards! See our special campaign page on this issue, and sign Gareth's petition.

Flitwick Moor Still in Danger!

Despite Mid Beds Borough Council's courageous decision to continue the green belt status of land adjacent to Flitwick Moor, the final outcome is still in doubt. See our special campaign page on this issue.
