About the event

The sport of Boxe-Francaise Savate, or French foot-fighting, is practiced around the world and Great Britain is one of the top competing nations. Fighters are invited to come to Malvern on 20 November 2010.

Friends, family, colleagues and members of the public can watch all the action in the ring with the best Savate bouts that Great Britain has to offer.

Fighters should arrive between 10:00am and 10:30am for weigh-ins. Fights will start at 11:00am and finish at 4:30pm. Spectators are welcome all day, and spectating is free.

Getting to the venue

By road - Malvern is most accessible from junction 7 (Worcester South) off the M5, (with junction 6 a close second. Coming off junction 7, head towards Worcester, and pick up the signs to Malvern (takes you along A4440 then A449). Just after you enter Malvern, you will come to a roundabout with a countrywide stor to your right. Take the first exit on that roundabout. Keep following the road (going straight over all the roundabouts) until you come to a traffic light junstion where you must turn left or right. Turn left at this junction. Follow the road to a roundabout oustide a plush Doctor's surgery, and take the first exit. Follow the road to the unique Barnard's Green roundabout. You need to go all the way round the `roundabout', and head up the hill along Barnard's Green Road. The gym is around 300 yards along on the right hand side.

By rail - Great Malvern railway station has direct trains from Oxford, Birmingham (Moor and New Street) and London Paddington. Out of the railway station, turn right, cross the road, head down Imperial road to the end, turn right onto Barnard's Green road and the gym is around 200 yards down the hill on the left.

Entrants. This tournament is open to all standards. Novice fighters are very welcome, as are competitors from other arts (provided they are sufficiently availed of the rules). All fighters must have current GBSF membership (£16 per annum).

Registration. Fighters should register for this tournament by Friday 12th November with a GBSF club instructor, giving name, age and weight class and the entrance fee. The fee is £8 for advance registration (i.e. for those fighters registered, via their instructor, with the event host, by 6pm Friday 12 November), and £12 for those who have not registered in advance.   NB a fighter’s weight category is allowed to change, subject to the weight recorded on the scales on the morning of the tournament. Refunds will not be given for cancellations after Friday 12 November.

Equipment. To compete, fighters will need adequate protection (ie groin guard, gum shield, shin guards) and boxing gloves appropriate for his or her weight category. Fight order. Fights will start at 11am. We aim to have a fight order full arranged before the day of the event. This is why advance registration will be very useful. Fights will finish by 4:30pm, the changing rooms and venue will close at 5:00pm.

Information for officials

Officials - in the form of judges, referees, timekeepers and Ring Delegates - are required throughout the day. Any qualified GBSF official can take one of these roles as they become available. If possible, please bring a white shirt and black trousers for the purpose. For those who are not qualified GBSF officials, but would like to learn what is involved in being an official, please contact me, and I will put you down as a trainee official, and try and buddy you with a qualified official. Being a trainee official can be very useful for those who wish to learn about judging/refering, and especially to those who purely fight, and wish to up their game, possibly aiming at international level. Please reply ASAP to offer your service as an full, partial, or trainee official, if you are able. Many thanks. There will be no entrance fee charged for people who come solely to officiate.
