own one hundred thousand shares in one company

why?

well if you play this right it doesn't have to cost to much money and ive always fancied being a major shareholder. i could sit on the board of directors or something...

done?

yup - april 2006.

i became a major shareholder on thierteenth april 2006. i obviously didnt want to break the bank on this one, so owning one hundred thousand shares in someone like hbos (£938,000), itv (£116,000) or unileaver (£575,000) was rather out the question. so i began to search for a company that i could identify with... but also afford. so after a bit of research i decided upon millwall football club. okay, they might have a few violent, racist fans and are about to be relegated from the championship but this is my oportunity to get in at the bottom. the only way is up for millwall and when they get in to the premiership in the future and start to rule europe then ill be able to retire on my earnings. one hundred thousand shares in aston villa football club? currently worth £409,000. millwall are only a bit shitter than them, so it can only be a matter of time.

i obviously dont have a massive knowledge of the stock exchange, so i logged on to yahoo finance on the day of purchase to check the share price. yahoo gives all sorts of information about the shares: obviously the current price is listed, but also given is information about the days performance, how many have been sold etc. i noticed that there had been no millwall shares sold that morning (i bought the shares at around 9.50am) so i dived in and bought my 100,000 shares. my trade price was 0.048 pence per share, so my investment is a rather measly £48.00. now i didn't image that this could make much of a dent in the london stock exchange. but have a look at the following screenshot from yahoo just after i bought the shares:

the volume field shows all the shares bought that day, which are mine and mine only. so it transpires that my one measly purchase pushed up the share price by sixty percent. now i dont know how shares work, but does that mean if i invest thousands of shares then the price would rocket, thus making myself rich? anyway, while pondering my possibilities, this happened...

some bastard saw that id inflated the millwall shares by sixty % and decided to off-load his holdings of 877,084 shares, plummeting the price down to below what id paid for them.

anyway, the question still remains (and please someone let me know if this is the case) - does buying a fifty quid stake in millwall really push up the whole value of the club by sixy percent? if so i think they owe me some free match tickets.

things are looking up!!

New chairman for Lions

Millwall hope to name their new manager shortly, after confirming Stewart Till, the CEO of United International Pictures, as their new chairman.

The Lions, who have been relegated from the Championship, parted company with David Tuttle last month and Till is keen to find a replacement as soon as possible.

He told the club's official website: "I have been a supporter of Millwall since my father took me to see them play Carlisle in 1959.

"Our intention is to return to the Championship after next season.

"One of my tasks is the recruitment of a new team manager to bring glory back to The Den."
