buy and drink a bottle of wine the same age or older as me
why?
Just to see how good it tastes really. I guess im more of a beer man at the end of the day, but it would be great to drink a really old bottle. Em Led has actually bought me a bottle from 1981 but we're saving it for a special occasion.
done?
The bottle Em Led bought me for my birthday, in January 2006, was a rather nice Chateau Fourcas Dupre 1981 Medoc. Bought from vintagewines.co.uk, the description states:
"From the good 1981 vintage, this lovely red wine is darkly coloured, ripe, full bodied, richly fruity and fleshy with a smooth finish".
Cracking.

We were saving the wine for a special occasion, and the guidance that came with the bottle stated that 2008 was the best year to drink it, but we weren't sure whether we could wait that long.
Then on the 9th November 2006 I received the following e-mail:
It is e-mails like this that make me really happy. A lovely Austrian man, with a very special grasp of the English language (hey, I'm not knocking it as my German is non-existant aside from Vor Sprung Durch Technique) is offering me a quality bottle of wne from a friend's cellar so we can save the bottle Em Led bought. Amazing!
I especially enjoyed his use of the phrase 'keep on movin'' which reminds me of once-defunct, now-reformed, mid-nineties boyband 5ive. Which can only be a good thing in my opnion.
I sent him a quick e-mail thanking him for his very kind offer and stated that of course I would like a bottle of wine from his friend's cellar. I also checked whether he would like any money for the wine and if it was indeed a kind gift, I would find something from Rugby or Warwickshire to send back to him in return. Alex e-mailed me again:
Firstly, notice how the Austrian version of 'RE:' is 'AW:'. Interesting to note the cultural differences we still have in this seemingly global world.
Good old Alex was concerned that I specifically wanted to 'buy' a bottle of wine, so I assured him that I was as happy to receive a freebie as the next man. I did e-mail back and ask Alex if it was possible to have a photo of him for the website, but I haven't actually heard back from him yet. Maybe the wine festival was all too much for him and he finds himself locked in a wine cellar somewhere. Hope he is okay.
Will hopefully get a photo of Alex before long and I'll think of a suitable gift to send him in return that sums up my local culture (A can of Carling? Something from the pound shop? A Nokia phone to symbolise the 58 mobile phone shops in Rugby? Will have to have a think...)
