- How do I connect to the server?
- Click here to load up UT and automaticaly connect to the LineOne server.
- At the UT desktop, open the Multiplayer menu and choose Open Location. At the prompt, type or paste the following address: unreal.lineone.net .
This entry should be saved in the prompt's "drop down list" for easy access.
- Open the server browser (Multiplayer > Find Internet Games) and select the Favorites tab. Right click in the Server window and select New Favorite.
Paste or type the following address: 194.75.152.207 , into the Server IP Address field. The other fields can be left alone and Auto-Update Description turned on.
This will add the LineOne server as a Favourite, allowing you to connect to it by double clicking the new entry.
- What software do I need?
The following patches and packs are only required by users of the original UT release, and not by users of the updated Game of the Year Editions.
- UT version 436 (7.0 MB)
- This patches all previous versions available, although the server does also support version 432.
- Epic Bonus Pack 1 (13.8 MB)
- This includes extra models, voice packs and maps required for play. Extract then run the .umod file to install.
- Digital Extremes' Pack (1.5 MB)
- Also known as Bonus Pack 2. To install, extract and run DE.umod, then extract the two .unr files into your UnrealTournament\Maps directory.
- Inoxx Pack (4.8 MB)
- Also known as Bonus Pack 3. Again you will just need to extract then run the .umod file to install the extra maps included.
The first time you connect to the server a small file with the initials CSHP will probably begin downloading automatically (if rather slowly) and then install itself. Why, is explained here.
- Is the play always just plain Death Match?
No, see here for details.
And before you ask, no - Rocket Arena is not supported :(
- Who are these Godlike players with the prefix "\_ine0ne"?
These days the tag simply means that the player is a member of the wholly unofficial \_ineone Clan. Some members have admin privileges to the LineOne server.
- Are there any conventions or guidelines for play?
There are a couple of conventions which you may wish to keep in mind whilst playing on the server.
Chat Fragging
- This is the act of killing of someone whilst they are typing messages. Different character models use different animations to show that the player is currently busy typing, e.g the Human characters put their hand to their ear and the Nali floats in meditation.
Chat fragging is considered uncourteous by some, but if you do follow this gentlemans rule then don't be too suprised when someone does not repay the favour!
Respawn Camping
- This involves staying close to a respawn spot, repeatedly killing players just after they respawn, without giving them a chance to fight back.
This is a much more cynical tactic, and is even considered to be cheating by some. Depending on the reaction of the other players you may be given a warning for exploiting this tactic.
There are few actions which could get you kicked or banned from the server. You will be certainly be warned at least once before falling afowel of these guidelines*.
Cheating
- Use of a hacked client to gain an unfair advantage is certainly grounds for a kick, and occasionally a ban.
Abusive Behaviour
- You are playing a 3D killing simulator, so it would be hypocritical to ban strong language. However there is a difference between competative smack talk and persistant abuse against a player, which is not tolerated.
Spamming
- There are players with the annoying habit of repeating everything they type for emphasis, which is tolerated. Players seen doing nothing but repeating the same inane comments over and over, will provoke a warning and eventually a kick.
- How do I fix a "Package 'credits' Version Mismatch" error?
This is caused by an incompatibility between the Game of the Year edition and the LineOne server. It only occurs when server rotates to the map DM-Cybrosis][.
A fix is available here (to be used at your own risk). Extract the credits.utx file included in this archive into your UnrealTornament\Textures directory, overwriting the previous version.
Note: Please keep a backup copy of the original credits.utx file as you will require this to be swapped back if you wish to play DM-Cybrosis][ on a GOTY edition server.
- How do I fix a "Package 'DE' Version Mismatch" error?
This is caused by you having a slightly older version of Digital Extreme's Mutator Pack than that installed on the server. To update your copy simply download and run this file, which is backwardly compatible with the older version.
- Why are the other players skating around the map?
The LineOne server does not support the S3TC/DXT1 compressed textures included on the 2nd CD. Side effects of having the compressed textures installed include invisible or unanimated players, and increased instability.
The only fix for this is to copy the contents of the \Textures directory from the 1st CD into your UnrealTournament\Textures directory, overwriting the original contents. This replaces the compressed textures with lower defintion uncompressed textures.
- What is CSHP?
CSHP stands for Client Side Hack Protection and in essence detects and refuses entry to players found to be using a non-standard copy of UT. Successful use of such hacked clients are covered in the cheating section of the guidelines. More information is also available on the official CSHP website.
The first time you connect to the LineOne server a CSHP file may begin downloading to verify your copy, and thereafter will be stored in your cache. Your cache may flush itself periodically, but apart from this the file will not need to be re-downloaded.
