Common Starling – Sturnus vulgaris

Flocks of starlings used to be a common sight flying over the parks and gardens of Sheffield.

Lately their numbers have been in serious decline (falling by 66% since the 1970’s), leading to their name being somewhat of a misnomer. This is largely blamed on the household cat. This was one of two seen near Endcliffe Park, still in winter plumage.
