Mountain Weather Forcasts

There are now free mountain weather forecasts available for most of the UK. In Wales these are from the UK Met Office. There is also a new, really rather good Lakes forecast you can try here, while Geoff Monk and Associates provide pdf forecasts for the main mountain areas. AccuWeather provide general mountain forecasts that, while not that detailed, have a useful severity gauge and very good national coverage. Also, Metcheck is very useful.

Other

Go to AccuWeather or Metcheck for many other areas than those listed above.

There is also the the Scottish Avalanche Information Service, which provides up to date and accurate forecasts for five different mountain regions in Scotland.

You can still have these forecasts delivered offline - the Met Office have some you can have delivered by phone or fax. They also offer various outdoor activity forecasts.

Synoptic Charts

The generally available MET Office synoptic charts are listed below. I would recommend another page though, a guy called Col Martin, who has created a way of comparing various models, and fading between them. It's interesting to see how much difference there is, and the colour makes it really really easy to visualise!!

Cols' page is here, and you can go directly to the charts here. Highly recommended. Otherwise the standard charts

Alternative source of above charts :

Other useful sources of data include:

Another cool resource, but not really a synoptic, is the NASA Global interactive satellite selector. Very nice, lets you watch the weather systems move about. Click on the map to zoom it.

General Forcasts

The BBC forecasts are pretty good, in fact I have heard rumours from those that know that they are better than the MET office ones at the moment. Worth knowing that you can get them on WAP as well. The link is <http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/wap/default/home/index.wml#first>. Maybe one to add to your mobile's bookmarks?

There are also general forecasts from the MET Office, these cover areas of the UK, and are the type of forecast that you might expect to see on the TV. These require less concentration that the synoptic charts above, but are less useful for mountain conditions.

Lastly, the very useful UK weather page is indeed as described.

UK Mountain Webcams

Useful for what the weather is actually doing. Here's a few useful outdoors related ones, but this is nothing like a complete list. If any links are broken then please let me know...

God knows I need these, and some of them seem pretty good. The Leeds one appears to be easy to follow.
