Seasons Greetings

Our winter break from curling is upon us now and I hope everyone is not getting too stressed with all the build up to Christmas and New Year - it will be worth all the hard work I am sure!

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing you all on the ice in the New Year.

Thank You

'I would like to thank all our members for their support over this difficult period, for Lillian and myself, and it is greatly appreciated.  I have been inundated with cards, phone calls and hospital visits all of which have raised both Lillian and my spirits. The process has been a humbling experience for me and I can only thank the medical and support staff at Ayr Hospital for their care and dedication which has been exemplary.

I am starting on the long recovery process now, I am feeling fine and building up my walking distance each day.

Let's not also forget that both David and Hazel Smith have and are going through this process, more involved than myself, and lets wish them all the best.'

Welcome to Season 2011-12

'I hope you have all had an enjoyable and restful summer break as the curling season is just about upon us.

During the summer break we had a very social golf outing at Ballochmyle Golf Club on the 31st May (more details under outings on this website).

I have heard that Isobel Ironside has recently got engaged and I am sure we all wish her all the best and perhaps her soon to be husband will join us on the ice at some future date.

On the curling front we have managed to maintain rink numbers apart from the Lochend Trophy where we have had to drop a rink due to player numbers falling.

We accepted an invitation to enter a rink at the opening of the refurbished Auchenharvie rink on Saturday 3rd September.  The rink skipped by Andrew Kerr lost only one match by one shot yet still managed to be just outwith the prizes.

Following last year’s successful trip Alastair Fyall is organising a further weekend away at the North West Castle in Stranraer next March.

If anyone wishes to join us please contact Alastair a.s.a.p. to check if spaces are still available.

We are a friendly club with a good standard of curling however we do need to continue to encourage new members and if anyone hears of anyone interested in playing I am sure we can fit them in one of our bonspiels to let them get to know everyone.  We also need to have a presence in the Disnae Club and Mary Foy is looking for volunteers.

This is not onerous as you are there to provide advice not coaching and can be both enjoyable and rewarding.

Finally I would like to thank you all again for the support Lillian and I received earlier in the year and over the summer.  I feel fine and will be back for the start of the season in a slightly slimmer form.  So it just remains for me to wish you all a great curling season and I will see you on the ice, or in the bar, at some time in the next few weeks.'
