We all avidly keep an eye on new fashion trends but the old ones just keep coming back. You just cant keep a classic style down for long. Theres always a lot of vintage and retro looks around with designers still being influenced by old classics. Just think of ditsy floral tea dresses, swing style jackets and coats, flares, maxis, minis, and even the classical Grecian look dress.
Vintage style is pretty much unique whats the chances of someone turning up at the same party with an identical vintage dress to yours? Vintage gowns are now being seen at red carpet events and designer vintage couture pieces can even increase in value over the years. As with any designer label however watch out for fakes. See my Vintage Guide. Be individual not one on the herd and love it. Combine vintage clothes with modern pieces or go for vintage accessories.
Many wonderful shops now specialise in vintage but some can be quite pricey so dont forget to regularly check out charity shops, jumble sales, car boot sales and ebay for the occasional gem with an affordable price tag.
Anything hidden away in old wardrobes and lofts of mums, aunts and grannies is definitely worth a look as you are keeping it in the family. There are usually some great stories attached to why they held on to clothes after all this time and there may even be some old family photos of your relative wearing them in the true on trend style of the day.
I love vintage and am regularly sourcing nice pieces some with an eye on current trends to pass on to you. Check out my Vintage Style Shop and continue the cycle.
