The Secret Law Of Improbability

The universe is a strange and inexplicable place to live.  It is, indeed, an even stranger place to play poker.

As we all know, there are certain immutable universal laws set down at the moment of creation.

Examples:

1)  The square of the hypotenuse of a right angled triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.

2)  Nothing can be frozen below absolute zero.  (Zero degrees Kelvin)

3)  Under standard Quantum Mechanical theory, it is impossible to know the momentum of a particle exactly, if you exactly know it's position.

4)  No matter how many games of poker you play, there will inevitably be a prick at your table who busts your pocket rockets with a weak-ass hand and spends the rest of the tournament boasting about it.

The purpose of this lesson, dear initiate, is to teach you how to become that prick........

Probability:

As we know, the universe is governed by probabilities.  Nothing is certain in our strange quantum world and things can only ever have a chance of happening.

The same is therefore applicable to poker.

If I told you that you were holding       and the flop came:      you would probably be 100% sure that you would win this hand.  Agreed?

And if I told you that you were up against a player who held    most people would probably still hold on to the belief that they were 100% certain to win this hand.  Agreed?

If we ran this same situation a million times, and randomly dealt the turn and river cards, the guy holding 97 would WIN 1000 hands against you.  Your quad aces would get busted viciously 0.1% of the time.

So if we dealt these same cards a million times and you never got busted, you would start to think it is highly improbable that you keep winning.

And as we continue our dealing frenzy and you have now played 15,000,000 hands, the probability of you not being busted through so many hands becomes smaller and smaller and smaller.

In fact, as the numbers get larger, and more and more hands get dealt, it becomes almost ridiculously impossible that you could ever continue to win.  The guy with 97 WILL bust you.  It is just a matter of time.......

The Key to 7 2 off suit:

By worshipping at the temple of 72o, you have a much a greater advantage than the guy playing 97s against Quad Aces.

In fact, 7 2 off suit is such a strong hand that it will violently crush AA heads up an astonishing (12% + X) of the time.

Against trash hands such as    your odds improve to an amazing (33% + X)

72o is a MUCH stronger hand than most poker players think.  If you learn to play it intelligently and aggressively, it's presence will never be detected and you will always make your opponents fall foul of the Fundamental Theorem Of Poker:

"Any time your opponent plays his hand differently to how he would play it if he knew what you were holding, YOU GAIN......" - David Sklansky.

The X Factor:

What's the biggest run of reds you've seen on a roulette table?  Fifteen?  Sixteen?  Ask everyone in the entire world and they will probably never give an answer higher than Thirty.  Why is this so?

The answer is because Black has almost a 50% chance of winning (there is a small loss due to the zeros on the board)

The more spins you make, the more likely it is that a black will turn up.  (This is despite the fact that, ignoring the zeros, the chance is still equal between black and red on each spin.)

You try it and I guarantee you, you will probably never get a run of thirty.  That ball WILL drop onto a black number pretty soon.

However, in the world of poker, the participants in the game are actively and unconsciously practicing "Probability Denial."  This excessive use of "PD" is what creates the X-Factor.  The X-Factor is the special edge that the universe immediately sends to those who dare play 72o.

On average, 72o should win about 30% of the time heads up, against a randomly dealt hand.

In a ring game, it should valiantly triumph around 5%-20% of the time if it is played.

However, most players will immediately fold this treasure house of a hand as soon as they are dealt it through ignorance and fear.

This means that in reality, 72o will win nearer to ZERO PERCENT of the time.

Now, just in the same way that the immutable laws of the universe cause the roulette ball to drop onto the black number to restore the balance of probabilities, when a skilled adept such as yourself proudly ventures onto the poker table with 72o, the universe will IMMEDIATELY send you X in order to restore the balance.

Mother nature is BEGGING for you to play this hand.

I cannot stress this strongly enough:

The Fundamental Theorem Of 72o:

 - "Any time you aggressively play seven deuce off suit, the universe will bend the laws of short term probability in order to re-balance the long term probability abuses by those trashy players who only play premium hands." - Celeryman, 2004.

Take some time to ponder the above statement and you will agree that it is sound.  You are now well on your way to moving up through the ranks and are officially a Level Two Initiate.  Congratulations.
