How I discovered the power of 72o - By CeleryMan (A true story) I started playing online poker almost a year ago and like most new players I was brainwashed into the "premium hand" mentality. After a few months I gradually began to realise that all the poker books I had invested in were wrong. Pitifully wrong..... It all began with an experiment in Pokerstars play money. I spent two long months gradually building my stack of play money from 1000 chips to 1.4 million chips only playing premium hands, all the time reading forums on the internet and purchasing all the recommended "core reading" books. Theory of poker by Sklansky, Super System by Doyle (10 2 - Great Hand) Brunson, Internet Texas Holdem - Matthew Hilger, etc etc. Well, those trashy books told me that the top ten hands were: AA, KK, QQ, AK, JJ, 10 10, 99, 88, 77, AQ and for a long time I believed it. The point at which I became suspicious was when I was continually busted with AA by a fish playing 10 7s or having my KK ruthlessly trounced by A6o (who fearlessly called my preflop raises). It was then that the alarm bells began to ring..... My experiences with AK were even more horrific. Whoever suggested going all in preflop with that trash hand needs their head thoroughly examined. It is a monstrous calamitous devil of a poker hand and should be folded immediately. As an experiment I decided to take 40,000 play chips (the maximum buy in) into a play room and to try an all-in or fold strategy, only going all-in with pocket pairs. I made a point of announcing to the entire room that this was indeed what I was doing and before I went all-in I let my fellow players know by typing "ALL-IN HAND!" into the chat box and then promptly raising all-in. Well, I found that I didn't get much action at all. Most of the time everyone folded. Pocket Pairs are clearly feared. Even the lowest little speck of a PP, 22 (which beats the trash hand AK) created fear in their hearts. So, it was time for a rethink: The Inducement: Being concerned about the constant lack of people calling my all-ins I decided to add an extra element of inducement for my fellow players. I calmly announced to the entire room (and every time thereafter) that I would be going all-in with any pocket pair OR 72 off suit (which I had been reliably informed was the worst hand in poker.......) I stated that I would shout "ALL-IN HAND!" before going all-in and everybody would know they were either up against a random pocket pair OR 72 off suit. Well, the reaction was astonishing. Suddenly the entire table was calling my all ins. After losing a few 40k buyins by being busted whilst holding trashy premium pocket pairs (AA, KK, etc) I managed to possess a stack of 250k in the room by winning with 33 and 22 and rivering improbable sets. This was my first hint that the universe works in more mysterious ways than we realise..... It was then that my first test of faith began...... I was dealt 72 off and was sitting on a 250,000 chip stack. I promised I would go all-in. What was I to do? "It's the worst hand in poker" - The books said. "It would be suicide" - were my thoughts..... Should I quietly muck and nobody but my conscience would ever know? It was then that I truly became an initiate and proudly typed "ALL-IN HAND!" into the chat box and forcefully threw my two hundred and fifty thousand chips all-in...... Well, I was hoping they would all fold. I really was. So it was quite a surprise when I got 4 callers........ What were the odds? I sat there looking despondent as the flop came down, containing no sevens or deuces and I was resigned to defeat until by some miraculous universal force of nature, I rivered an improbable runner-runner straight, Ace to Five..... My bravery was rewarded.... My 250,000 had suddenly become 400,000 in chips and I laughed it off as a lucky hit. Well, you'll never guess what happened next: A few hands later I was dealt 72 again. Now this time I couldn't seriously consider throwing 400,000 all-in, could I? Well I did.... Sure enough, I rivered a highly improbable flush and collected 820,000 play chips. I was now almost a millionaire in less than an hour....... Could I have stumbled upon the best kept secret in poker??? I continued to build my stack and it reached 1,170,000 at it's peak in that session. The table had an average pot size of about 500k and developed one of the longest waiting lists I have ever seen on Pokerstars. 72 was a sensation! "He's done it again!" - They exclaimed as I raked in yet more and more chips. It was truly unbelievable. It was at this point that DISASTER struck. I was mercilessly dealt the trash hand KK and immediately shoved my 1.1 million play chips all in. (I didn't know better back then) Well, suffice to say I was called by an 800,000 stack holding Q8off. My gutter trash KK was abhorrently busted by the premium hand Q8off and I lost 70% of my stack. This confirmed what I had suspected. 72o was indeed better than AA and KK and since then I have consistently proven it in both play and real money. I am now a professional 72 off suit player and the proud founder of the temple of 72o, and the rest, as they say, is history...... (I can be found on Pokerstars, most days, fearlessly going all-in with 72o on the boundary of the money in sit&go tournaments and MTTs. Feel free to drop in and let me know of your progress as a member of our temple........) Celeryman. - EMAIL ME 72o wins a tourney! - Email from initiate declaring righteous glory and success....

I typed "Best damn hand in poker." - A stunning and monumentally shocking earth twister of a monster victory - Celeryman. Olly weaves a complex web of tournament mastery with the Best Damn Hand In Poker....... It wasn’t long after my induction to the powers of 72o
that I saw the stars align to the mighty and destructive force of the A recent initiate to 72o, you can imagine the joy, nay
tears of happiness, as I discovered my third hand of the tournament A giant killer of epic proportions had been born under my
sign, and I intended to raise it with all the accolades The inevitable demise of my opponents trumpeted across the
virtual baize with the fall of the 9d 7s 4d flop.
4c appears on the turn, time for a move: I bet $100. The fate of the final duellists is gravely sealed as the
river glistens in the glorious shape of 2h. Folding was obviously too humbler deed for my opponent,
who should have realised by now that instead of having AsFULL, he was in
fact going to get one.
