The widow of Alexander Fraser 8th laird of Strichen (1733-94), by whom she had eight children, was the only child of William Menzies of St. Ann's, Jamaica; his brother, James Menzies of Culdares, sold the estate in Jamaica in 1793.

Alexander Fraser 9th of Strichen, Captain 1st Dragoon Guards, became a Catholic when in 1800 he married Amelia Mary (d Aug 1860) dtr of John Leslie of Balquhain by Violet dtr of John Dalyell of Barncrosh and d 1803
The son and heir of Alexander Fraser 9th of Strichen:
Thomas Alexander Fraser 10th of Strichen, succeeded 8 Dec 1815, on the death of Archibald Campbell Fraser, son of the 11th Lord Fraser of Lovat, as MacShimi Chief of the Frasers of Lovat. He was Lieut and Sheriff Principal, Inverness-shire. On 28 Jan 1837 he was created Baron Lovat of Lovat, co. Inverness, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, and established his right to the ancient Lovat peerage title, the attainder of which was reversed by an Act in his favour 1857, he becoming the 12th (but for the attainder 14th) Lord Fraser of Lovat. He was b 1802, m 6 Aug 1823 Charlotte Georgina (d 28 May 1876) eldest dtr of George William Jerningham, 8th Baron Stafford, and d 28 Jun 1875 having had issue:

from a prominent Roman Catholic family. (Patrick Leslie of Balquhain was a witness at marriage of John Gordon (son of General Patrick Gordon) and Elizabeth Grant. These were the gr-grandparents of Isabella Robertson that married our John Fraser in Strichen.
