The following email was received Jan04:

I am most interested in Alexander Fraser, born 1666, Master of Lovat.
I believe that he did not die on the date which you give, but in fact fled to North Wales following either a duel or the killing of a piper. I think that he may have ended up in Anglesey and taken the name "Rowland Williams".

I have some family notes, written by a 2x great aunt who would probably have been a 2x great grandaughter of "Rowland Williams". They read:

The Williams Family claims descent from Alexander Frazer, Lord Lovat who, after killing his opponent in a duel, fled to Wales where he worked as a miner and married a miner's daughter.
His brother Simon seized the estates and held them by the sword but was beheaded for his part in the 1745 rebellion. Later the estates and title were granted to another branch of the Frazer family.
A lawsuit claiming the Frazer estates was brought by David Williams' cousin, then head of the family, in 1883 or 1884. The Williams descent was accepted, but not the claim to the title because the special grant of the title which had been made after Simon's death could not be upset.

The David Williams referred to was my 3x great grandfather and was born in Beaumaris in 1805.
