My Other Psion Involvements

Apart from maintaining this web site and writing my own programs, I've also become involved with several other aspects/areas of the 'Psion community'. Most of these things have come about quite recently, but I thought it was about time I listed them here to give them more publicity...

Here's a round-up of my current commitments/involvements (no particular order):

EPOC World. I've been an EPOC World member right back since it was first launched in July 1997. During that time, I've become moderator/co-ordinator of the OPL32 FAQ. This is a collection of useful OPL32 information and code for the members of EPOC World. With the launch of v2.0 of EPOC World, the FAQ changed to become a Lotus Notes driven 'Knowledge Base', and over time new things will get added, hopefully making it a very useful resource for all the OPL members.
Palmtop Magazine. Another new involvement, I'm very happy to say that Steve Clack of Palmtop recently apporached me to write some articles for this excellent bi-monthly magazine devoted to all Psion and EPOC machines. Each issue is packed with reviews, news, features and tips, and is essential reading for every Psion/Geofox owner. My first feature appeared in Issue 17, and if all goes well I will continue to write for Palmtop in the future! RMR Software. In January of 1998, I became part of the RMR Software team along with Al Richey and Andy Waller. Currently, I handle the other new RMR authors. I work with the authors who join up, help them ensure that their programs follow the RMR rules and guidelines, write help/readme files, etc. and generally see that everything goes OK right up until their RMR version is released. As with both Al and Andy though, none of our jobs are fixed, so I also end up doing many of the varied RMR tasks anyway! And as a testemant to how well the author scheme is working, and what a good idea it is, JWIN for EPOC is also available via RMR Software as RMRUtils!
3-Lib Chats. Each Saturday night (from 5PM to 6PM GMT), Steve Litchfield (yes, the Steve Litchfield who runs 3-Lib) and myself run on-line chats in his Java based chat room. This is a 'free for all' and anyone who's interested and has a Java enabled web browser can come along and join in. It's a real time chat, so messages fly about all over the place to all the people who are there. It's an ideal chance to talk almost person to person with other users and also several of the main shareware authors too, who also make a point of coming along when they can.
And in a similar vein, there are also occasionally chats on a Sunday night (also from 5PM to 6PM GMT) in the same chat room. Although this is still open to everyone, it's mainly aimed at developers from the Psion community, and provides an opportunity for them to chat about developing and related items, exchange code, help each other, etc.
Both chats are (almost always :-) ) very interesting and enjoyable. Make sure you come along if you get chance!
