More and more, twinshock and pre-65 riders are looking for more sophistication from their bikes than was ever anticipated with the revival of these classes. Having experienced the performance of modern bikes, and developed riding techniques to use it to advantage, they are looking for more than the old equipment can provide. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the suspension department.

Monoshock suspension has revolutionised the handling of Trials bikes and made impossible hazards possible with the right amount of skill from the expert rider – and the novice has gained from such developments. Shock absorber manufacturers are being asked to provide similar characteristics from Twinshocks but it has been difficult to provide the wide range of spring rate variation which is required in the travel which is available.

NJB SHOCKS have been developing the damping characteristics of their products consistently to reflect the demands of their customers and now they have introduced a new range of 'TrikShox' which has addressed the need for a wide range of spring rate in these limited travel applications.

Development revealed that the search for lighter initial springing was inhibited by the torsional resistance of the rubber bushes used for the traditional end fixings. Bearings can be fitted but these are unhappy in the environment in which trials bikes operate, the ingress of mud and water leading to rapid wear. Side loading of the damper rod caused by misalignment of the frame/swinging arm fixings can also cause extra friction. Therefore, NJB SHOCKS has commisioned the manufacture of sealed spherical bearings to overcome both problems and allow the softer initial springing riders want.

Riders are individual in their requirements, so a degree of adjustability is needed. 'TrikShox' provides adjustments for preload, spring rate and the proportion of soft/hard travel required. Two grades of damping are also available with the new'Supersoft' damping being particularly popular in rocky areas.

They are available in lengths from 330 to 390mm (13 to 15.35" in old money) with fittings to suit most popular Pre-65 and Twinshock bikes.

And the cost of all this sophistication?
