British Schools Gymnastics Association Girls Apparatus Championships  - 
28 March 2010  -  Newcastle

Whilst many of the younger gymnasts were competing in their first regio
nal competition, six seasoned Notts gymnasts, aged 13-15, represented the East Midlands Senior Team to become the British Schools Champions 2010!  Charlotte Draycott took the individual title, gold medal and cup in 1st place along with Kirsty Baldwin in 3rd place, with the rest of the team Lara West, Chenay Elson, Megan Bonnar and Lillie Buttery contributing to the overall team score to win the title.

East Midlands Regional Club Grades 14 & 13 Championships  -  28 March 2010  -  Leicester
Well done to all the Notts gymnasts that competed in the Regional Club Grades held at Leicester. 
In Club Grade 14 (in-age), Taeja James took the gold medal with Ella Morel in =3rd to take the bronze medal.  Lauren Whitehead and Lily Moorea-Hutchinson finished in 5th and 6th place.  Tanith Beresford and Laura Kaletha in 9th and 10th place and Charlotte Mears in 13th place. 
Grade 14 (out of age) - Imogen Clarke took the silver medal,  with Shenea Fawzi-Perrin 6th,  Ella Dickson 9th, Maddy Murphy 10th place.
Grade 13 (in age) - Hannah Piechota 6th, Carrie Brown 10th, Isabelle Osario 13th and Felicia Miloro 14th place.
Grade 13 (out of age) - Abiba Grant finished in 2nd place to take the silver medal with Caprice Adjei in 4th place.  Well done to all the gymnasts

British Compulsory Level 2 Championships  -  21 March 2010  -  Liverpool
Well done to Ellie Downie who finished 2nd in the Compulsory Level 2 Championships held on Sunday 21 March at Liverpool. Caitlin Roberts finished in 10th place.

NGA Floor & Vault Competition  -  21 March 2010  -  Rushcliffe
Well done to Abiba Grant and Rimini Miloro who competed for Notts in the Nottinghamshire Gymnastics Association's Floor and Vault competition held at Rushcliffe on Sunday 21 March 2010.  Abiba finished in 5th place in the 10/11 age group.  Rimini also finished in 5th place in the 12/13 age group.  Both gymnasts qualify as reserves to represent Nottinghamshire in the Regional Floor & Vault Championships to be held in Leicester on Sunday 18 April 2010.

English Championships  -  5 - 7 March 2010  -  Leicester
Notts gymnasts competed over the weekend in the Espoir, Junior and Senior categories at the English Championships held at Leicester.  In the Espoir category on the Friday, Kirsty Baldwin finished in =4th place overall and took joint bronze on bars.  Chenay Elson finished 6th place overall and took gold on bars with Lillie Buttery finishing 10th.  Saturday saw the Seniors compete with Niamh Rippin finishing in 4th place overall, taking silver on vault and bronze on floor.  Becky Downie, competing on only two pieces finished 31st overall.  Sunday was the Junior event.  Overall, Ruby Straw took 2nd place along with the silver on bars and bronze on vault.  Billie Mackenzie finished in 4th place along with bronze on beam.  Charlotte Draycott finished in 11th place and Lara West, competing only three pieces finished in 34th place.  Well done gymnasts!

East Midlands Regional Compulsory Levels 4 & 3, Club Grades 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6 & 5  -  21 February 2010  -  Leicester
The start of the new competition year saw Notts gymnasts compete at Leicester in the Compulsory Levels and Club Grades.  Competing at Compulsory Level 4 - Lucy Valentine, Megan Horsepool, Georgia Wallace, Sian Shuttleworth and Millie Fairhurst-Marshall, finished in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th places respectively, with the first four gymnasts going on to qualify and represent the East Midlands team at the National Finals to be held at Birmingham on 15 & 16 May.  At Compulsory Level 3, Keauna James took the top spot with a great score of 59.033.
At Club Grade 8, Chloe Gell finished in top spot with Katie Liwoshko, Caprice Miloro and Emily Heslin finishing in 10th, 18th & 19th place.  At Club Grade 7, Olivia Shuttleworth finished in 3rd place.  At Club Grade 6, Beth Dixon finished in 3rd place and at Club Grade 5, Katy Bramley finished in 1st place.  Chloe, Olivia, Beth and Katy all qualify to represent the East Midlands team at the National Club Grade Championships at Birmingham on 24 & 25 April.
At Regional Club Grade 12, Rimini Miloro finished in joint 8th place.   Well done to all gymnasts!

Gymstars Invitational -  12 December 2009  -  Malta
Notts Gym Club gymnasts were once again invited to compete in the 2009 Gymstars Invitational at Malta on 12 December.  Competing gymnasts were Saran Carman, Hannah Avallone, Beth Farrow, Sheriene Kelly, Amber Lipton, Olivia Shuttleworth, Ellena Frost and Beth Dixon.  Katy Bramley, sustaining an injury just prior to departure, was unable to compete but supported her team mates as well as being the  club photographer (photos to follow!)  An enjoyable competition with good results for Notts girls.

British Junior & Senior Challenge Cup  -  22 November 2009  -  Aldershot
Well done to Beth Farrow who finished 14th in the Junior Challenge Cup held at Aldershot on 22 November 2009.

East Midlands Regional Open Age County Team Challenge  -  15 November 2009  -  Leicester
Well done to the Nottinghamshire Junior Team that won the Regional County Team Challenge held on 15 November 2009 at Leicester.  The Nottinghamshire team comprised of Notts gymnasts - Katy Bramley, Olivia Shuttleworth, Amber Lipton, Ellena Frost, Chloe Gell and Caprice Miloro.  Beth Farrow took the opportunity to compete as an individual in the junior section in preparation for her Challenge Cup Competition in a weeks time.

British Age Group  Championships Levels 4, 3, 2 Voluntary Finals  -  7 / 8 November 2009  -  Guildford
The weekend saw Notts gymnasts compete at Level 2 and for East Midlands at Level 3. Caitlin Roberts, Ellie Downie and Keauna James and Drew Lenihan-Orwa (Wade) took the team bronze at Level 3.  With combined scores from the Compulsory finals held in May, Caitlin finished in 3rd place to take the overall bronze medal.  Ellie finished in 8th place.  Keauna finished in a respectable 15th position on the day but did not have a combined compulsory level score and therefore finished 33rd combined.  Well done girls!  At Level 2 Hannah Avallone and Saran Carman finished in 9th and 10th places respectively on the day and in 5th and 6th places with combined compulsory scores.

2009 South Africa International Cup  -  6-9 November  -  Gautang, South Africa
Notts gymnasts Niamh Rippin and Ruby Straw were amongst the strong line up competing for GB at the 2009 South Africa International Cup in Gautang - 6 - 9 November 2009.  In the WAG Junior Competition, Niamh took the all around title with a score of 52.500 ahead of team mate Laura Edwards (51.050) and fellow Notts team mate Ruby Straw (50.550).  The British Team took the team title (154.200) from South Africa B and Malaysia 2.

UK School Games 2009  -  Cardiff  -  3-6 September 2009
The weekend saw the stars of the future at the UK School Games held at the Planet Ice Arena in Cardiff.  Ruby Straw, Charlotte Draycott and Billie Mackenzie were part of the England team which finished in 2nd place for a silver team medal.  In the all around, Ruby finished 5th, Charlotte 6th and Billie 12th place, with Ruby and Charlotte qualifying for apparatus finals on the Sunday.  Apparatus finals saw Ruby take gold on bars and bronze on vault and Charlotte taking silver on floor.

UK School Games  -  Cardiff
For the second year running, Ruby Straw will be representing England in the UK School Games to be held in Cardiff from 3-6 September 2009 along with club mates Charlotte Draycott and Billie Mackenzie.  www.ukschoolgames.com for more information and to follow the UK School Games.

British Championships  -  4/5 July 2009  -  Guildford
Becky Downie retained her Senior Champion title for the second year running by taking the all around title with a score of 56.100 at the 2009 Women’s British Championships at Guildford Spectrum on day 1 of the weekend of 4 & 5 July 2009 as well as qualifying for all 4 apparatus finals.  Jordan Lipton finished in 4th place and qualified for bars, beam and floor apparatus finals.
In junior category, Ruby Straw finished in 6th place and qualified for the floor, bars and vault apparatus finals and Charlotte Draycott finished in 24th place all around.
Day 2 on Sunday saw 4 Notts gymnasts compete in the apparatus finals.  Becky took beam, bars and floor titles and finished 2nd on vault behind Huntingdon’s Marissa King.  Jordan finished 6th place on floor and beam and 7th place on bars.  Ruby finished 4th on bars and vault and 5th on floor.  Espoir finalist Billie Mackenzie finished 5th on beam and 8th on bars.

Nottinghamshire County Championships  -  28 June 2009  -  Rushcliffe
70+ gymnasts entered into the 2009 County Championships over 17 different categories at both club and elite levels.  With the majority of gymnasts from Notts, it was good to see Ashfield gymnasts enter and win Club Level 6 (age 9/10) and Club Level 4 (age 10/11).  It was a very long day over 3 rounds, so a big thank you to all those that helped to make the day such a success – judges, coaches, parent volunteers and all that donated items.  Thanks also to Slade Hopkins of Beckhampton Road, Arnold, who provided the lovely floral arrangements for the judge’s tables.

U13 GB International – Spergau, Germany  - 27 June 2009
Billie Mackenzie travelled with coach Nick Ruddock to Germany to represent Great Britain ‘B’ team in her first international competition against Switzerland and Germany.  The ‘B’ team finished joint 3rd place alongside Germany with a score of 148.85, Great Britain ‘A’ t
eam took 1st place.  A great start to Billie’s international prospects coming 11th overall.  Apart from a couple of mishaps on bars a great competition all around finishing 3rd on beam overall with a score of 13.05.
British Espoir Championships  -  6 June 2009  -  Gloucester
Billie Mackenzie finished in 7th place and qualified for the bars and beam apparatus finals to be held at Guildford on 5 July.  Nicole Pavier – 16th, Lillie Buttery – 21st, Kirsty Baldwin – 24th, Chenay Elson – 27th and Megan Bonnar - =30th.  Well done to all gymnasts.

East Midlands Open Age Club Team Challenge  -  31 May 2009  -  Leicester
This competition took place at the brand new competition venue in Leicester.  Well done to the junior team who took first place – Amber Lipton, Olivia Shuttleworth, Niamh Cullen, Ellena Frost and Keauna James.  Due to injuries, the senior team consisted of only Annabelle Towndrow and Hannah Bowers, finished in 5th place.

British Teams Championships  -  23/24 May 2009  -  Guildford
Once again, 2 teams were entered into the British Teams Championships held at Guildford on 23 & 24 May.  Seeded in the last 8, the very young Notts ‘B’ team of Billie Mackenzie, Kirsty Baldwin, Lillie Buttery, Chenay Elson and Nicole Pavier finished in a credible 12th place.  Notts ‘A’ team consisted of Jordan Lipton, Ruby Straw, Charlotte Draycott, Becky Downie and Lara West finished in 3rd place behind Liverpool and Heathrow ‘A’ to take the bronze.

Glasgow Grand Prix - 15/16 May 2009
The crowd were treated to a world class display of gymnastics at the Glasgow Grand Prix held at the Kelvin Hall
on 15 & 16 May.  Beth Tweddle took two gold’s to follow her double European Championship success on bars and floor.  Becky Downie produced a great routine to claim the silver on bars and give her a boost ahead of the World Championships.
 
East Midlands Regional Floor & Vault Championships  -  Spalding  -  26th April 2009 
Notts gymnasts, Caprice Miloro, Chloe Gell & Giulia de Rosa, along with gymnasts from Worksop and the Notts General Gymnastics Club competed for Nottinghamshire in the Regional Floor & Vault Championships.  Well done to all the gymnasts.

British National Club Grades Championships  -  Birmingham 25th/ 26th April 2009
Notts gymnasts competed at the British National Club Grades Championships at the weekend of 25th and 26th April.  Beth Farrow - Grade 6, Beth Dixon - Grade 7, Niamh Cullen, Olivia Shuttleworth and Annie Line - Grade 8.

European Championships – Milan, Italy  -  2nd – 5th April 2009
Becky Downie competed for Great Britain at the 2009 European Championships finishing in 11th place all around after a fall on beam.  Becky qualified for the vault and bars finals finishing 6th place on both pieces.  Beth Tweddle claimed double gold, adding the Floor title to her Asymmetric Bars title victory once again.

Sunday 29th March 2009, saw many Notts gymnasts competing in the Regional Club Grades 14 & 13 Championships at Rushcliffe.  For many, this was their first competition (previously Grade 6 & 5).  In the Club Grade 14 (in-age) level, twelve Notts gymnasts finished in the top 15 out of 48 gymnasts; with Megan Horsepool 1st, Phoebe Collins 2nd, Rhianna Carruthers 3rd, Lucy Valentine 4th and Georgia Wallace 5th.  Sian Shuttleworth 7th, Carrie Brown 8th, Millie Fairhusrt-Marshall 9th, Madeleine Lilley =11th, Hannah Reddings and Felicia Miloro =13th, and Hannah Piechota 15th.   In the Club Grade 14 (out of age), the only Notts gymnast to compete at this level was Eloise Griffiths who finished in a respectable 11th place.
Club Grade 13 (in-age) saw Notts gymnasts Lauren Rutter and Georgia Maguire finish in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.   Club Grade 13 (out of age) saw Alex Allan finish in 2nd place to take the silver medal.   Well done to all the gymnasts.

On Saturday 28th March 2009, Jordan Lipton competed for the Scotland junior team at the Celtic Cup against Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland.  Jordan finished in 2nd place overall to take the silver medal and help the team to 2nd place.

After the junior and senior GB team’s success last week in Italy, Ruby and Niamh were, once again, selected to represent the junior Great Britain team against Romania juniors in Lisbon, Ireland on 21st and 22 March 2009.
Ruby finished all around in 9th position, helping the team to a gold medal place and qualifying for two apparatus finals on the Sunday.  Ruby finished in 4th place on the vault and in 6th place on the floor.  Niamh, having suffered a slight injury in training, was withdrawn just prior to the competition.

Sunday 15 March 2009 saw Notts gymnasts competing in three different competitions.  
British Schools Gymnastics Association Girls Apparatus Championships at Newcastle saw both the Junior and Senior teams both finish in 4th place.  The senior team comprised of Megan Bonnar, Billie Mackenzie, Sheriene Kelly, Charlotte Draycott, Jordan Lipton and Nicole Pavier.  Well done to Billie who finished in 3rd place overall to take the bronze medal and to Charlotte 5th place and Jordan 6th place. The junior team was made up of Kirsty Baldwin, Chenay Elson, Lillie Buttery, Saran Carman and Hannah Avallone.  Well done to Kirsty and Chenay who finished in 6th and 7th place overall.

The other competition taking place on the same day was the Nottinghamshire Gymnastics Association Floor and Vault Competition at Rushcliffe.  In varying age categories, competing gymnasts were Giulia De Rosa, Georgia Maguire, Paige Millett, Chloe Gell, Alex Allan, Gabriella Miles and Caprice Miloro.  Well done to all the gymnasts.  Giulia, Chloe and Caprice, along with Georgia as reserve, all qualify to represent Nottinghamshire at the Regional Floor and Vault Championships to be held at Spalding on 26 April 2009.

The third competition taking place over the weekend of 14th & 15th March was an international in Italy in which Notts gymnasts represented Great Britain against Italy, Brazil, China and Romania.
GB senior team Becky Downie and Laura Jones were selected.  Niamh Rippin and Ruby Straw were selected for the junior team.  Unfortunately, Laura had to withdraw prior to travelling as she was still protecting an injury.
After two days training in Italy, Becky decided to protect her feet and compete only bars and beam. Ruby, the youngest in the squad rose to the occasion, did a fantastic job for the GB seniors and finished the top all around senior scorer for
Great Britain in 12th position helping the team to finish in 3rd place.
Niamh continued a successful run for Notts, in the junior team with a fantastic floor routine, a solid vault and a steady beam routine and a slight mistake on bars left Niamh in 5th place all around and again, was the highest scoring junior British gymnast with the team finishing in 2nd place.

Compulsory Level 2 took place on Sunday 8 March 2009 at Liverpool with both Notts gymnasts Hannah Avallone and Saran Carman finishing in joint 6th place.

he first competition of 2009 was held at Rushcliffe on 1 March.  This was the East Midlands Club Grades Levels 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5 and Compulsory Levels 4 & 3.
Regional Club Grade 12
saw Notts gymnasts Chloe Gell and Caprice Miloro finish in 1st and 3rd places respectively. 
Results
National Club Grade 6 saw Beth Farrow finishing in 4th place and also qualify to represent the East Midlands Region in that level at the National Club Grades Championships to be held in April at Birmingham.  Amber Lipton finished in 8th position but jointly with Dina Simmons from Hinckley, gained the highest score in range & conditioning.
National Club Grade 8 saw Olivia Shuttleworth, Keauna James, Annie Line, Niamh Cullen and Bethany Williams compete in this level, with Olivia taking the silver medal to qualify to represent the East Midlands region at the National Finals along with Annie and Niamh as reserve.
In National Club Grade 7, Jessie Wendels, Beth Dixon, Hannah Bowers, Ellena Frost and Annabelle Towndrow closely competed for a place in the East Midlands Team.  Jessie took the bronze medal and along with Beth and Hannah as reserve qualify for the National Finals.
Results
Melissa Sherwin, the only Notts gymnast to compete in the Compulsory Level 4, finished in 3rd place to qualify to represent the East Midlands Team at the National Compulsory Level 4 Championships to be held at Birmingham on 3rd May 2009.
In Compulsory Level 3, Ellie Downie and Caitlin Roberts finished in 1st and 2nd places respectively and also go on to represent the East Midlands Region at the same competition.

2009 Tyson American Cup – Saturday 21 February 2009
Becky Downie’s success at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games was her invitation to compete for Great Britain at the prestigious 2009 Tyson American Cup in Chicago.  Becky achieved Great Britain’s best Olympic gymnastics all-around result when she finished 12th in the individual competition in Beijing last August was one of 10 women invited to compete in America’s top international even.  Becky, once again, did her club and country proud finishing in a fantastic 4th place.     Results

The annual 2008 Christmas Display saw all the gymnasts demonstrating fun routines in front of a packed gym for their family and friends.  A big thank you must go to Fiona Buttery for her time and dedication in making the green shorts for D2 group.

The money raised (£50) from the making of the shorts was very kindly donated back to the club by Fiona and Andy Buttery in memory of their good friend, Liz Filmer.  Liz was Lillie Buttery’s godmother who died unexpectedly in December 2007 of gall bladder cancer at the age of 46.  Liz and her partner Steve always supported Lillie’s gymnastics and loved to watch her perform at the Christmas Display.

2008 ended with seven gymnasts, along with Coach Alan Price and Judge Katharine Mead representing Notts Gymnastics Club at the Gymstars Invitational competition at Tarxien, Malta on 13/14 December 2008.
It proved to be a successful outing seeing them return with a haul of eight medals. In category B, Sheriene Kelly won overall Silver, gold on bars; silver on beam and bronze on vault, Megan Bonner took the silver on bars and Beth Farrow silver on floor. In category C Annabelle Towndrow claimed a silver medal on vault and bronze on bars. The remaining members, Hollie Sanderson, Beth Dixon and Hannah Bowers also made it through to the finals.
