Introduction

Holton is a small Oxfordshire village nestling between the A40 and M40 some 8 miles east of Oxford. It's church, St Bartholomew's, has the signature of Oliver Cromwell in its register as his daughter was married in the village during the Civil War when Cromwell was staying in Holton Park.

Wheatley Park School, Oxford Brookes University - Wheatley Campus, Oxfordshire Library Service Headquarters and The Park Sports Centre are all based in Holton, despite the names of the first two establishments. A sore point for many years with the village as Wheatley Park School is in Holton Park and the University's Wheatley Campus lies entirely in Holton.

Although Holton has no shops, it is within walking distance of the retail facilities in Wheatley and can boast a large, modern and very well equipped village hall, which is always busy, particularly on Mondays and Wednesdays when it hosts Sharecare - a day centre for the elderly. The village hall houses many other activities including a bridge club, drama group, table tennis club, WI and yoga class and as Holton has no pub, the well stocked bar is open every Friday evening for the locals to get together over a pint or two.
