The 24 hour period to 09:00 GMT on the 24th with 44.6 mm of rain was the wettest day since 18 September 1999. Please note that with the traditional recording practice this record is recorded for the 23rd even though the vast majority of this rain fell in two hours or so around dawn on the 24th. Looking at rain records for the same period in the south west it seems that the rainfall was particularly concentrated in the Lyme Regis area.

In contrast with June this month had a spectacularly wet day but the overall rainfall was only 121% above the average July rainfall over the previous five years.
