6th July was recorded as the wettest day since 1999. The fact that readings for the MetOffice are taken at 09:00 GMT each day the torrential and persistent rain of 7th July was recorded as falling on the two days 6th and 7th although most of this rain actually fell during the 24 hours midnight to midnight of the 7th. Therefore the total rainfall for these 24 hours was close to 89 mm. Local weather reports at the time stated that 'a month's rain fell in 24 hours'. With the average July rainfall for this site being 81.7 mm this was probably also the case for this site.
In addition this was the wettest July at this site since records began in 1994 with rainfall 2.28 times the average of the post 2000 July average.
