The bracing bar ends, bolted together under the pineapple nut can be seen at the bottom of the picture.The lower one on each side of the pineapple was anchored at the ends of the respective rafters. They served the same purpose as joists in a house loft, to stop the rafter ends from splaying out under the weight of glass or tiles. See apex bracket
