Barnes Meadow Update
John Steven informed us of the red car story, the suggestion of a 42nd house and how the houses were selling. Details on Barnes

Fish and Chip Shop in the Village?
The numbers of members of the public showed an increase this evening. It turned out that they were there in support of Steve Gardner's planning application to convert the village butchers shop into a chippy. The discussion went around smells, parking, and litter. The possibility of this resulting in a successful business was brought up, but councillors added that it was not for them to base their recommendations on the likelihood of success or failure of a business.
The vote went 5 to 3 against a recommendation
Nice piece of timing Steve. Just as the houses on the other side of the road were selling well, the prospect of a fish shop in the neighbourhood could dampen some of the enthusiasm, for isn't this the kind of thing these people were hoping to escape from? I didn't know Steve was anti-Barnes Meadow.
Whalley Lane to get Speed restriction
Beryl Denham has walked Whalley Lane with a highways official from Devon County Council. He told her that the de-restricted section of the road will soon have a 30 mph speed restriction. There is also a good chance that this will eventually be reduced to 20 mph once the law makes this possible.
Flooding of the Lim
Like many rivers during the last year the Lim has had it's share of flooding. This was discussed at length. John Duffin's contribution enlightened the assembly of the dangers of the modern approach of straightening out the courses of rivers and their banks, and the clearing of vegetation. This only results in passing the water on faster downstream. Flood plains are the natural reservoirs to hold water whilst the lower sections of the river try to deal with the excess water. The cricket field is one of these.
Parish Council Vacancy
If you are interested in becoming the 10th member of the parish council, you have just until 30th November to get your application in. The council will co-opt one of the candidates after meeting and getting to know them all in the village hall committee room on 5th December at 19:30.
Betterment Homes
Amended plans have been submitted for the site behind the Devon Hotel. We were all urged to continue writing letters of objection. The planning application number is P1986.
Free Tree Scheme
This very successful scheme is running again. Requests for trees should be made to John Duffin on 01297 445744 or email:
rozduffin@excite.co.uk
I have now tracked down the application forms, they are available at the Post Office Shop. The next problem is who do you give the completed form to?
The Tree Warden of course whoever he or she is. The hunt continues.

Structural Plan, Hedgerows and Environmental News.
Leaflets and flyers were handed around to the parish councillors. That is about all that can be said on the subjects for no discussion took place and the public were kept completely in the dark on these matters. This is where an official parish website would be an enormous benefit for the leaflets could all have been scanned and put on the website .Of course the
Devon Structural Plan is on the DCC excellent website.
No such luck with the East Devon Environment News. The less said about their site the better only that it's a poor comparison to the West Dorset DC site.
