Letter to Lyme Regis News 28th April 2006

Strawberry Fields project - the facts

I REFER to the letter in last week's Lyme Regis News from Mr David Sole taking me to task over comments regarding the Strawberry field project. ,

He says: "...one remembers how ill judged and even absurd the previous proposals were that he so strongly advocated for the site through his membership of the Strawberry Field sub committee..."

At no time did I publicly comment on the planning application submitted by the football club. All I ever approved of was the concept.

In fact, Mr Sole, with Philip Evans of the Lyme Regis Football Club, I addressed an informal meeting of Lyme Regis town councillors with a view to downsizing the application.

I felt that the application had a better chance of succeeding with the removal of the illuminated MUGA and less robust supporting facilities.

This is still my view.

However, I couId not get enough support from my fellow councillors. The planning application was later withdrawn. It is regrettable that Mr Sole took me to task without bothering to find out the true facts.

One thing you can be sure of is that I shall, in the future, pursue this project with the utmost vigour.
