Sports for fields is a non-starter
Lyme Regis News 3 February 2006
Strawberry Fields at Lyme Regis is not a suitable site for built recreational facilities.
That is the verdict of an independent inspector appointed by the Government to consider objections to West Dorset District Council's local plan.
Jill Kingaby's report says use of the hill-top beauty spot for such purposes is not acceptable because of its prominent and highly sensitive position with the designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
She adds: "Whilst I have sympathy with objectors who pointed to a shortage of 'sports and recreational facilities for Lyme Regis this site is not within easy walk or cycle distance of much of the town."
Lyme Regis Football Club had hoped to build a multi sports complex and clubhouse on the town council owned site but later withdrew its application after planning chiefs recommended refusal.
