Hydrotherapy

We are pleased to announce the completion of the Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital’s new Hydrotherapy  Pool and Suite.

The pool comprises a large 28 foot  by 14 foot state of the art Hydrotherapy pool and has the latest therapy and safety equipment. The Hydrotherapy Department is an essential new facility to complement the internationally  recognised rehabilitation and out-patient therapy services at the hospital.

The facilities include a separate Jacuzzi with high pressure massage jets, two adjustable  jet streams which provide enough resistance to swim or walk against, water massage jets, patient hoist, disabled showers and changing rooms as well as the latest heating systems.

 Benefits

The benefits of hydrotherapy have long been known for a wide range of conditions requiring rehabilitation. Exercising and treatment in water provides unique support and resistance and allows the physiotherapist to target specific muscle groups effectively. The new hydrotherapy facilities enables the expert team of chartered physiotherapists to provide the latest treatment for post traumatic and post surgical conditions including spinal injuries, head injuries, back and neck injuries, rheumatoid / arthritic conditions, orthopaedic conditions and many other conditions in a supervised and safe environment. Hydrotherapy can also be used for preventative treatments including sports and fitness training. It is also beneficial in pregnancy and post natal conditions.

Disabled shower and changing rooms, a visitors waiting area and an out-patient consulting room complete the suite allowing the hospital to continue to expand its local out-patient services.

Like all rehabilitation services at the Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital, the new Hydrotherapy treatment is easily accessible, affordable and available during the day, in the evenings and at weekends.

Hydrotherapy for maximum independence

Hydrotherapy is a widely used treatment because it gives people freedom to achieve movements that are otherwise difficult or impossible. The warm water and buoyancy assist movement and encourage pain relief and relaxation.

Water is a good way of providing graduated resistance to movement. Exercise in water is a pleasant way of gaining strength, mobility and function with the added psychological benefits of improved confidence, posture, balance and co-ordination
