You will need to think about purchasing the items below.

  • Guns will throw off hot gasses and debris that could harm your eyes. Semi-automatics will eject hot cartridges that fly out of the gun at speed. If you're shooting in a controlled environment, you should wear safety glasses.
  • The noise level while shooting will damage and degrade your hearing. Ear defenders or "ear muffs" as they are called, are therefore essential. They don't make it easy to hear conversations or instructions but you will soon get used to it.
  • If you want to spend out a little more, electronic ear protectors can be helpful. They are designed so that speech can be heard but sudden impact noise is reduced effectively.
  • You may not enjoy having a hot ejected cartridge land on your open-toed sandals! Enclosed shoes are strongly advised.
  • Firearms should be kept in a safe location and in a safe condition. That usually means out of reach and unloaded with the ammunition stored separately. When they are being stored, make sure that they're protected from unauthorised access. Hampshire Constabulary can advise on their preferred method of storage, and they will have to approve your storage installation before granting a FAC. Many people keep them in gun safes or gun cabinets.
