KINNAIRD WON THE PRIX DE L'OPERA, GROUP 1,
AT LONGCHAMP
KINNAIRD'S BOX IS LITERALLY IN THE SHADOW OF MIDDLEHAM CASTLE AND THE BOX OF THE DERBY WINNER OF 1945, DANTE, IS NEARBY.
MIDDLEHAM CASTLE IS WHERE THE MAN WHO BECAME KING RICHARD III LIVED FOR MANY YEARS. BY COINCIDENCE KINNAIRD'S GREAT WIN CAME ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF RICHARD'S BIRTH; HE WAS BORN ON 2 OCTOBER 1452.

Mark Johnston won the Hardwicke Stakes, Group II, with Bandari
By early October 2005 Mark had trained nearly 130 winners so was fast approaching a personal best for the number of winners trained in a season. At that stage he was fourth in the trainers' championship in terms of money won and second in terms of the number of races won.
This is the twelfth successive season Mark has trained more than 100 winners. That sequence is a record and the Middleham winners' machine rolls on.
Attraction was, of course, trained in Middleham throughout her career by Mark Johnston and the front-running filly won a fifth Group 1 race, when, on 10 September, she repeated her win of 2004 in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown in Ireland.
A few days before Kinnaird's great win Attraction was found to be lame behind and was retired from racing, so the informal title of 'Best Horse in Training in Middleham' passes to Kinnaird. A big 'Well done' to Patrick Haslam.
There is still sadness in Middleham at the death of Don Enrico Incisa, who collapsed and died on 30 April 2005.
Don Enrico was modest and universally liked. Not many realised he was
Some of the fillies trained by Don Enrico were named after wines produced by members of his family. Their names included the likes of Sassicaia, also the name of the original 'Super Tuscan' wine.
As if to add to the poignancy of the loss of Don Enrico the Royal Ascot meeting, run this year on the Knavesmire at York, marked the fiftieth anniversary of his father's saddling Botticelli to win the Gold Cup, with
What a pity Don Enrico could not be present for the anniversary. He will long be remembered with affection and, to demonstrate that, the day before Kinnaird's victory in Paris the first running of the Don Enrico Incisa Memorial Handicap took place at Redcar on what was the most important card of the year at that course.
There are currently more than 500 horses in training here, under the care of 15 trainers. Facilities are constantly being upgraded and fees are most reasonable.
Middleham is in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales between Wensleydale and Coverdale where Miles Coverdale, translator of the bible, was born. In the late fifteenth century Richard, Duke of Gloucester, later King Richard III, ('A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!') ruled the north of England from the great castle of Middleham.

This site is practically dead because the trainers in Middleham can see no point in it. Therefore, to help them cotton on and to increase their joy in living, please send a horse to Middleham to be trained.
