Great news for Andrew Caldwell as he beats Colin Mitchell in the Tait Trophy Semi Final. No further news is available at present.

Well done to Andrew on getting selected for the Scottish Junior team for the second year running.

28/07/06

Andrew Caldwell beat Willie McDonald in the final of the Club Championship tonight.

27/07/06

Championship Semi Final results

Willie McDonald 21 - 8 Kevin McFarlane

Andrew Caldwell 21 - 12 - Stuart Betts

26/07/06

The second last league game finished 7-2 for Pilrig. Andy Jeffrey got beat from Chris Stevens, Willie McDonald got beat from Scott Rogers, Ian Paterson came back from 8-0 down to beat Darren McKenny, and Stuart Betts was lying game until Darren Grant took a bowl out for a 5 to win the game by 3.

25/07/06

Craigentinny went out the Edinburgh Top 10 on shots to Slateford after a very good close game. Grant McLaren and Stuart Betts won by 2 at home in the pairs against Alan and Gordon Ramsay, Andy Jeffrey's triple was 9-9 playing the last with 2 on top of the jack and Scott Brunton had a hit, jack went in the ditch and a Slateford bowl run through with it to lye the shot, and thats how it finished. Ian Paterson got beat 21-12 from Rab Marshall and Willie McDonald's rink won by 2 on his old patch.

23/07/06

Gorgie Mills visited Craigentinny for a place in the quarter finals of the Edinburgh Top 5, and were sent back west with a 5-0 defeat. Craig McCall beat Alex Hurry snr 21-5, Willie McDonald beat Ian Brown 21-12, and Gordon Bold beat Paul Miller 21-13. The other 2 games were conceded by Gorgie Mill with the Craigentinny players (Andrew Caldwell and Andy Jeffrey) winning easy. Next up is an away tie at Carricknowe for a place in the semi finals.

21/07/06

The fine Edinburgh Cup run continues after a good 5-1 victory over Parkside. All three rinks were up away, and the only defeat was for Andy Jeffrey against Rab Donaldson at home. The highlight of the night was for the rink skipped by Stuart Betts who were sitting at 6-6 against Brian Salvona during a tight game and scored 8 at the next end (but then went on to lose 3, 1, 3, but still won the game by four shots!). So, Pilrig in the final after they beat Wardie 5-1.

19/07/06

Good game against Tanfield tonight, and it could have been 9-0 either way with a few ends to go. Andy Jeffrey was well up against Scott Wood until a 3, 3, 2 against him made it quite close with a few to play, but won by 10 in the end. Stuart Betts had a well fought game against Davie Snodgrass and managed a 3 shot win, Ian Paterson was unlucky to get beat by a shot from John Storrier, and Willie McDonald got beat by a couple from Keith Taylor (Big Dub kept up his record of not finishing a game before 10pm!). Brings us to within 3.5 points behind Tanfield with 2 games to go, and one ahead of Parkside.
Bring on The Rig next week!

18/07/06

The great escape was carried out tonight in the first round of The Edinburgh Top 10 when the match against Liberton looked lost with a few ends remaining in the game, but eventually the game was won thanks to a singles win after the points and shots were all square. Ian Paterson did his job at home in the singles with a good win against John Urquart, and the fours always held a narrow lead. Away from home was a different matter where the pairs were well down and the triples getting beat also. Playing the last ends, the pairs got a five to finish 20-12 down, the triples lost one to get beat by a shot, which meant the fours just had to win. But, Big Dub's rink was 2 up playing the last with 2 against, and burnt it. The replayed end was similar, and a trail of the jack heralded a loss of one shot to win the game and match for Craigy. Onto Slateford next week!

15/07/06

Andrew Caldwell was feeling gutted in Bristol as he lost the semi final 21-20 after leading 20-16. With the score at 17-16 in Andrew's favour, everyone thought he was lying four for the game (including his opponent), but after the umpire was called by his opponent to make sure, Andrew only got three and went on to lose the game.

14/07/06

A great win at the British Isles Championships for Andrew Caldwell as he beat David Axon (Wales) 21-11. Well done to Andy and all the best in the Semi Final tomorrow!

12/07/06

A great 9-0 away win at Corstorphine kept Craigy 1st XVI in the title race with only 4.5 points between us us and Tanfield with 3 games to go. The game started with 3 rinks very close and Pogo 8-0 down, but the final two thirds of the game saw a big push and all rinks finished comfortable winners.

Tanfield beat Hillside 7-2 away, and Parkside beat Wardie 5-4 away, which leaved Tanfield on 66, Craigy on 61.5, and Parkside on 58.5.

07/07/06

Another good win in the Edinburgh Cup sees Craigentinny progress to the semi finals. All 3 rinks won at home again even though Andy Jeffrey was 15-0 down! Still no news as to who we play in the semis.

There was a dispute after the cup game about a game of pool. Ian Duncan broke off and potted the black direct from the break and no other balls. The club members were split as to what the rule is when this happens, with some saying they lose the game and others saying they should win the game. In the end, the 2 pairs decided to replay the frame (with Ian paying for the replayed game of course!!). This is in fact the correct decision - replay the game! The following is an extract from the Official 8 Ball Rules - "Rule 4(f) - If the player pockets the 8 ball (black) from the break, the game shall be restarted by the same player. No penalty will be incurred. The balls to be re-racked. This applies even if other balls, including the cue ball, are pocketed as well."

05/07/06

After a 27 year absence, it has been confirmed that Craigy has won the ELBA 1st XVI, 2XVI, and the Sharp Trophy. Well done to everyone that played (even Andy Jeffrey who was the only losing skip!!!)

Despite winning 5-4, it was a dissapointing night as this allowed Parkside to jump into 2nd place after beating Tanfield 7-2 at Tanfield. The only good thing is it kept us in touch with Tanfield with 4 games to go. Winning skips were Willie McDonald and Ian Paterson (who needed a 2 at the last to win by a shot!).

2nd XVI were beaten 7-2 at Willowbrae.

Edinburgh Top 5 Result

Craigentinny 3 - 0 Leith (with 2 further matches not completed)

30/06/06

Another good win the Edinburgh Cup against Seafield with all 6 rinks up, to set up a quarter final match against Postal on Friday night.

29/06/06

Edinburgh Top 5 Result

Craigentinny 3.5 - Maitland 1.5

28/06/06

Edinburgh League Results

Dean 2 - 7 Craigentinny ........... Tanfield 9 - 0 Wardie

23/06/06

A good win against league rivals Tanfield in the Edinburgh Cup has given the Craigy team a much needed lift. Home skips Stuart Betts, Andy Jeffrey and Tony McLaren all won with Ian Paterson getting the vital away win to ensure our place in the next round.

22/06/06

Championship quarter final results

Stuart Betts 21 - 15 Darren Smith

Andrew Caldwell 21 - 5 Alex Duncan

21/06/06

After looking like a 9-0 might be on the cards in the league game at home against Parkside, Craigy ended up losing 5-4. Ian Paterson was always in control of his game against Paul Greive and won easy. Andy Jeffrey was up against Alex Hurry who was getting maximum results from running bowls and that game finished peels. Stuart Betts was peels with Davie Moran and lying game until Davie trailed the jack for a 2 with his last bowl, and Derek McFarlane always looked like winning his game until Robert Donaldson burnt the 14th end 4 times when the he was 16-8 down (with a few shots against each time) and ended up winning 19-16! The only good news was that Pilrig had beaten Tanfield 7-2.

Well done to the 2nd XVI on beating The Dean 9-0 away!

19/06/06

Sharp Trophy - 6 rinks up, 1 peeled and Andy Jeffrey got beat!

14/06/06

Another disappointing league performance saw Hillside take 7 points at home from the Craigy 1st XVI. The only rink to win on the night was Willie McDonalds, and the news that Tanfield got 9 points at Corstorphine is going to make it very difficult to retain the 1st Division title.

12/06/06

Well done to Stuart Shaw, Gill Adamson, Ronnie Douglas and Tony McLaren on winning the Club Fours by beating Andy Jeffries rink in the Final.

09/06/06

The week ended well for Craigy as Darren Smith, Derek McFarlane and Willie McDonald won the District 11 Triples against Goldenacre. The game started well at Queensberry with a 4, 4 start ensuring they always held the upper hand as Goldenacre were forced to chase the game to get those early shots back. They did keep themselves in the game and with only 4 shots in it playing the last end it made anything possible. But Daz started the last end with a perfect first delivery directly in front of the jack to make their opponents play forcing shots which were never enough to get the 4 shots. Well done!

08/06/06

Hard lines to Keith Moyes on getting beat 21-9 from Jamie Gracie in the James Fleming U25 Singles.

07/06/06

Not a good week for Craigy (so far!) as the 1st XVI were beaten at home 7-2 from Pilrig. There was positive news for Craigy before the game that top skip, Darren McKenny, was out injured after Kevin Hunter jumped on him after playing a wonder bowl in Saturdays Hamilton Trophy match and damaged his ribs. .......Kevin assures us it was a complete accident! The match was evenly contested in the early stages with two close games and one rink each winning comfortably, Pooly against Deeks and Pogo against Scott Rogers, but Chris Stevens played a good take out on the second last end against Big Dub to get a four, and hold on to win the game, and Graeme Gow played well to beat Andrew Jeffrey. Overall score was 68-60 for Pilrig.

Here pics from the game

Well done to the 2nd XVI on a marvelous 9-0 victory away at Pilrig.

06/06/06

A disappointing night for Craigy as the Fours and Junior Singles both got beat in the Scottish District 11 Semi Finals. The fours got beat by 2 shots and Andrew Caldwell got beat 21-18. Lets hope the Triples can get a victory on Friday night against Goldenacre in the Final!

03/05/06

A big thank you to Kenny Watlin (and Mo!) for his efforts in running the Hutton & Read Ltd sponsored Quiz Night. A good turn out of about 60 participants enjoyed the night with Davy Hoskin's team winning the first prize (but don't ask Ronnie about the colour of lights on ships!)

02/05/06

There was another great victory for the Craigy Triples in the Semi Final of the Scottish, but an agonising defeat for the Pair after leading for most of the game. The triples (Darren Smith, Derek McFarlane and Willie McDonald) were always in control against the triple from Maitland and ran out comfortable winners in the end. John Shields and Stuart Betts were in the lead for most of the game but went behind on the second last end to the pair from Dudley. A big chance on the last end was missed by Betts and the Ayr dream was gone for another year.

01/05/06

Well done to Keith Moyes on winning his latest match in the James Fleming ELBA U25 Singles. Keith was peels at 16 against Dan Hitching of Carricknowe but finished well with 1, 1, 3 to reach the next round.

31/05/06

A 5-4 defeat from Tanfield kept Craigy at the top of the Edinburgh League 1st Division. Willie McDonald won by 7, Ian Paterson won by 11 with a narrow defeat for Derek McFarlane (-4) and a heavy defeat for Andy Jeffrey making up the rink scores.

30/05/06

Another good night in the Scottish District quarter finals where the fours had a convincing win over Goldenacre and Andrew Caldwell won 21-20 against Dudley in the Junior Singles after being 20-12 down.

29/05/06

Updated Juniors News has been sent in by Margaret Caldwell.

27/05/06

Lottery Bonus Ball winner for this week was Stuart Betts!

26/05/06

Well done to Mike Sime on winning his Championship Match against former Scottish Triples Champion, Kevin Hunter. He is now pushing hard for a 1st XVI place......

Team news for next Wednesday.

25/05/06

Well done to Keith Moyes on beating Derek Jemson (Queensberry) 21-12 in the James Fleming ELBA U25 Singles. Ian Duncan was close in his game at 12-13 down against Stuart Clark (Bainfield) but unfortunately lost the game 21-12.

Kevin Hunter and Gordon Bold were beaten by Willowbrae in the ELBA pairs.

24/05/06

Well done to the 1st XVI on a convincing 9-0 victory over Corstorphine at home.

2nd XVI were beaten 6-3 away at Wardie.
